Except for Saturday, i've always been able to finish the NYT daily puzzles in under ten minutes. Sunday, of course, takes longer--it's bigger.

@Setanta,
I love Will Shortz. Love that movie. The baton-twirler always makes me think of Roberta.

@farmerman,
I have begun to enjoy doing some very old Times puzzles. Nancy bought me a book of old Sunday sized ones...and they must be very, very old.

Last night, one of the clues was: Regular on Life With Riley...and the answer was Digger Odell.

Think of how old you have to be to come up with that!!!

The sports clues in this thing are almost impossible...because they assume stuff happening in the 1950's and 60's.

I also love the clever theme puzzles.

@Frank Apisa,
barely recall the Life of Riley show. My Dad would watch that and Sergeant Bilko (they were on the same night).
I remember Riley(William Bendix-fat guy with a lisp) had this real sappy salesmanish kinda friend D'Andrea (I think) was his last name. Digger ODELL, nope. Dont ring a Bell. Was he another construction guy?

Anyone want some of this eggplant/ricotta roll-up? It's tasty, but Sybil put too much on my plate.

I'm going to ask Wassau to bring out the tea selection tray.

While aggravation isn't my game, (that's more your calling, Spendi) I could correspond with them, but it's a slow game when I'm more used to fast. Call me spoiled.

Y'all, I have to go help my sister get ready for a party. She's not used to giving parties and she's a little worried about it. So I'm off, back later.

cookies?

A bouquet of them was just delivered to me - some colleagues sent them in memory of the little red-headed dog.

Tea and cookies.

Perfect.

@ehBeth,
Great minds, you know, Beth. Last night I made a version of C. Claiborne's eggplant and rice - eggplant and garlic quick sauteed in a couple of tbs olive oil, added spicy tomato concoction du jour, a cup of diluted chicken stock, homemade pork and beef sausage patty broken up, and, new to me, madagascar pink rice. Tasty, and there are a couple of more meals worth leftover.

My next plan for eggplant is to make some bhajis -

Besan flour = chickpea flour, which I happen to have some of, staring at me from the cupboard. I may end up making them like dosas - I don't go much for using a lot of oil to saute, much less deep fat fry. Don't want to set the kitchen on fire, and oil is expensive.

Adds - the eggplant ricotta roll ups sound interesting..
