Perhaps we might virtually measure you up for some virtual corsets. Lace ups or hooks and eyes Madam?

Pedant! Rolling Eyes

Oops - yes, now I remember - Dylan - you and my husband both! Great guy - but my husband has Dylanned me out - sooo much Dylan over sooo many years. (oh, and I prefer Dylan electric!!!) Laughing

Ballet - love it love it love it! Cool

Jane Austen - like but not love - too much at school! Twisted Evil

And I STILL like two of Rob Thomas' songs - not the words - the feeling - know what I mean? I am but a simple soul!!! Wink

Ah vonny!! Try it now. You couldn't really be expected to learn the art of reading at school. There are all sorts of factors preventing it. Being young. Being in a sort of prison. The incompetence of teachers. The cheap edition. The motives of the choices.

It is rather similar to walking past the Las Meninas of Velazquez at 3 mph whilst eating a hamburger in order to have "seen" it. Another self-flattering box to be ticked. Like being able to spell "quantum".

I look into all the threads I see relating to books and I get no other impression other than that they are items of consumption one really ought to have on one's CV to be considered intellectual or something or other.

They are nothing to do with that.

And I am not a pedant. It was unfair of you to say so after I explained my reasons. I am not about to post a musical piece to demonstrate my taste in music. It can't be done. It's too forced. It's constraining and distorting. The real thing arrives out of the blue. If something grabs me I'm moved to share it but only for what it is and what it says.

My ballet cuts were to remind people that the idea of "equality" between men and women is ridiculous.

Why? Just because you don't look well in tights?

@farmerman,
Wassau, I'll have what farmerman is having--a big glass of freshly squozen orange juice.

And I think I'll have it on the patio, since it's such a lovely Spring day. And the planters you've filled with pansies are just delightful, Wassau.

I wrote a song once about a milkmaid called Daisy who, in the chorus" clenched her teeth and reached underneath and pulled on the udders and squeezed".

The other two are a mere affectations which beta minuses sometimes use to fake creativity. Crass solecisms.
