@Lola,
I'll have some of the sardine spread (hot louisiana sauce spiced sardines w/homemade mayo and some minced garlic, mashed) on that rustic mixed grains bread, toasted first, please, Wassau.

Oh, and a small dish of fresh pineapple.

Then some more of that good hot coffee.

Now where's the NYTimes, the Guardian, and the Village Voice?

Good morning, Osso. Such exotic foods, here. Without my cafe friends, I'd be dull as a post where food is concerned.
Wassau, bring me a dish of pineapple too. Yum

@spendius,

Put it anywhere you want Washup. I can afford my own drinks.

Now that you've repeatedly demonstrated your credentials to qualify as the café's Official Resident Curmudgeon, I'm willing to declare you the winner of that designation, despite knowing that others (including you) might immediately quibble about my selection.

While several other posters do exhibit quite good curmudgeonly characteristics, which might make them worthy contenders for the title, in my opinion, you are the only one with the consistency, tenacity, and persistence, to emerge the champ.

Whether you will attain the affection and regard inherent in statements such as, "He's a lovable old curmudgeon," remains to be seen, although the potential is certainly there.

The title does carry some perks, like a reserved chair in the corner, which allows you to overhear ongoing conversations, while still retaining some sense of solitude, and which has noise-canceling headphones in a side-pocket if you wish to tune others out or listen to music instead.

You will also have your own special mug which Wassau will reserve for you.

Of course, you are free to decline the title, which might also be a curmudgeonly thing to do.

@firefly,
Curmudgeon is an appropriately affectionate term to describe many of our cafe regulars. Good idea. When one or another is excessively so, we can send them to the curmudgeon chair with mug. Spendi does qualify at the moment.

We love you spendi. Would you like a newpaper or something else to read? How about some Bob Dylan on the stereo?

Better yet, why not a loop with Debbi Boone singing "You Light Up My Life" and Nancy Sinatra singing, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'!"

Wassau, I'd like a Cobb Salad, please, with an iced tea on the side.

And, osso, can I look at the NY Times after you've finished with it?

Right now I'm looking through the latest issue of Vanity Fair magazine.
http://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/toc/contents-201305

There's an article about the NY Auto Show, and one of the top cars is this Rolls Royce Wraith--which sells for a mere $300,000+ Rolling Eyes (an obscene price to pay for any car).

I love the fact that this car has a striking two-tone paint design. I am so bored by the monotone (and often drab) colors of most cars and I wish that more cars would incorporate different colors, or even some patterning, to add to the visual appeal and visual interest of our outdoor environment. I am so tired of being surrounded by visual monotony in almost everything.
And this car has a 628 hp V-12 engine, something I'd like to try out just once, just to see what that feels like when you step on the gas.

This car can also have tiny ceiling lights installed in the pattern of the nighttime sky, an interesting feature, which might amuse children, or provide some ambiance for those who want to have sex in the car, but one option I think I'd skip.

I'm now reading an article about Audrey Hepburn written by one of her sons.

Anyone want to look at Vanity Fair after I'm done?

OBVIOUS QUESTION WHICH I HOPE I ASK BEFORE ANYONE ELSE:

Which option...the lights or the sex in the car?

Yes, meeeee. I've long been sort of cool re Vanity Fair - hard to say quite why, I'll think about it - but I like it once in a while.

@Lola,
I am not in the least curmudgeonly. It is simply that I have very little enthusiasm for remarks which require me to pretend, on pain of being called names and ostracised, that I am Lady Catherine de Bourgh's six year old godson.

Ms Austen, I'm afraid to say, blows the female sex out of the water. What a treat it might have been to have been a scribbler in the early 19 century and took on such a plot with Darcy, Bingley and Wickham as the main characters. The latter presumably being a joke along the same lines as the one in Mansfield Park about the titles of the admirals.

That's exactly how I feel. But, every once in a while, I find something of interest in VF. And it's often good light reading while I'm eating lunch here.

Fast, that's what it feels like. Not only that, but first. I've never cared much for speed, but I do like to be first.

@firefly,
I don't understand about that silly stars-on-the-ceiling option of the new Rolls. What's wrong with a moon-roof? Is artificial superior to viewing the real thing?
