I am not employed, so I don't care what an employer sees - I care what I see.
The NSFW threads are mostly 'eh' to me, but some are grizzly to the max.
I take it that I can decline to see all of them, thereby missing what some wit on a2k says about something not so bad at all, or not, in which case I once in a while get to read a real lug nut mid vomitous extrusion.
I'm not so clear this is better than hall monitors taking out extreme crap.
I do get it that it is better re site resources, and so I'll agree with it -
but the effect is that I now see worse stuff than before.
Not that I have a better idea. Wondering if anyone else does.
@ossobuco,
In the beginning I enjoyed seeing people giving them crap for some of the silly threads they post but some of it is getting a little extreme, those I will completely ignore and not give them the attention the OP is seeking, without the attention they will eventually fade away IMO.
@jcboy,
What if you fade away before the person being ignored "eventually fade away?" Then will the attention you seek to give or not to give matter to anyone?
I don't worry too much about the posts of people I don't want to read. I use the ignore feature, so we can both be here with no friction.
I hate to use the word "shock" because I've lived too long for this stuff to be shocking. However, I do find it a waste of my time to read some of the junior high school drivel. Reading about self involved stunted behavior and musings about things that ought to be private make me wonder how many people would be interested in my bowel habits, festering boils and other distasteful subjects. It's actually part of some people's lives but isn't ANYTHING private anymore?
@edgarblythe,
I don't worry about any of it, I'm just talking.
I see the need for the nsfw warning re many businesses, and also take it some workplaces must be uptight.
And see there can be worse stuff than I used to see here on a2k, which now flies under that nsfw. (I don't know what I think on those yet, I might agree on the inclusion).
Just mulling.
Let me reframe that last post. Even sensitive topics can be discussed if you have an adult vocabulary. The difference is simple, I would rather have a guest ask "may I use the restroom?" than a boorish "I have to take a dump, where's the head". I apologize for this distasteful example, but unfortunately, I have heard the second example used in mixed company and in places that are not locker rooms.
I usually don't click on them, even though I'm not at work and nobody here would care if I clicked.
I didn't realize that I was missing some funny stuff.
Maybe we need to tag it with some code word so I'll know to look it.
Maybe: HOLAT - (hey, osso, look at this) or something, that way I'd know it might be something I want to read too!

None of it matters if you choose to ignore it now does it?
@glitterbag,
Hey, glitterbag! Where have you been hiding?
Merry Andrew
@Lustig Andrei,
ACTUALLY Im more annoyed by the damn spamalama crap . Just today weve got a whole bunch of "Streaming vids of recent movies" As the site grows, there probably will be lots of new categories of junk that Im gonna avoid. Too bad that stuff cant be avoided cause it slows down my browsing in the AM. NSFW can sometimes be funny and sometimes not, it just not worth any of my alloted time to peruse unless I see a really weird title

nope.
not since they stopped making phonebooths with doors...
@ossobuco,
What is an "NSFW thread"?
@georgeob1,
Not Safe For Work. (kinda silly)
@farmerman,
farmerman, Thanks for answering my question that George asked before I did. Have seen the "nsfw" on threads and wondered and speculated about meaning.
The NSFW designation is a recognition on the part of Robert that a large number of members of this forum access it during their works hours; from their workplace.
Apparently the thought is that the passerby co-worker who sees John Doe A2K Member feverishly typing away in response to a political post will not think twice, but should they see him reading or responding to a post about shagging his mother or the proper size of women's nipples they will rush to HR to rat him out.

If I were still an employer,
I 'd be interested in my employees actually
DOING what I paid them to do,
not posting on A2K on the job.

@jcboy,
So you need a piece of software to skip over a line of comment by someone who you wish to ignore? I mean it'd make sense to have an ignore function blocking an other party's private forum messages. But for general forum, you'd have to be mentally retarded to find such a piece of code any "useful."
And regarding NSFW, it's make sense to apply such tagging to a magazine or a pop culture news website where it's relatively ok to spend time surfing on mentioned sites on company hours. But wasting time in a non-company related forum on company hours is just being dishonest with your employer. I don't know, but it's my opinion that forming opinion and taking time to articulate such opinions decreases productivity in the work force more so than surfing magazine sites and news sites for the latest headlines and/or gossips. Unless of course this NSFW implemented by a2k suggests that a2k supports such dishonesty to an employer by their employee.
