John started the anti-depressant Wellbutrin. He cried less, yelled less, chuckled more at the TV commercials.
He still had his doubts. Not about the unmanliness of taking mood medicine--John's not macho--but about its effects."

It is writing down an approximation of a Jamaican accent.

Ya = you
mon = man

I think a bump simply refers to a nudge, or an encouragement.
