@tsarstepan,
Yum!! We'll take everyone Smile Thomas loved his burger, too. He had a double shroom, I believe.

@JTT,
Thanks for the thought - but I'm fine at home, having a vicarious trip from here. I'll get to do more things, since I'll be reading what everyone is up to in the Big Apple.
Besides, I've got a dog that wants to stay home.

@tsarstepan,
A lot of those burgers sound wonderful, Tsar. Some give me ideas, like that one with roasted tomatoes and escarole.

Okay! Looks like I will make it! My sister and I are looking at flights for the week after school is out on May 17. (I teach part-time.) Planning to stay for a week.

Now the fun begins! We're looking through guidebooks, making our short lists of things we must see. So far, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Ellis Island are at the top of both our lists. Once we have a clearer picture of what we want to do, I'll come back here and ask for lodging recommendations.

YAY!!!

And now the "Okies in NYC" jokes can begin....

Looking forward to seeing you in the flesh, Eva.

@Eva,
I can send you to a link where we're staying. She has several apartments in Brooklyn (3 blocks from the subway, 15 min. to Manhattan) and one of them is good for 2 at about $120 a night. Not bad for NYC!

You're not sure, Mame??

Maybe just ask Eva to explain it. She's the teacher who recognized the "good catch".

@JTT,
Well, I use it that way.

"It's been done before" - it has been done before.

Anyway, what are you doing cluttering up my NYC thread with grammar ****?

@Mame,
No kidding! Let it go, JTT. We have more important things to discuss here.

Thanks for the link, Mame! I haven't even begun to think about where to stay, because we haven't yet decided what we want to see. An apartment? I've never done that before.

@Eva,
Eva, in some places, like NYC, it's more economical to stay in an apartment. I've done this world-wide - just booked one in Provence. For the sake of a 5 minute walk and a 15 min. subway ride, you can save a lot of money. Her places are uber-clean and in a safe neighbourhood. I really recommend apts for 1 week or more.

Edit: Take a look at the Manhattan hotel prices and then see if $50/night doesn't make sense (for the sake of half an hour, especially) Smile

I wouldn't go back if I didn't feel safe.

JTT - get out of this thread, please.

For instance, from May through September here in Oklahoma, I pretty much live in white jeans, long linen or cotton tops, and sandals. Somehow, I don't think that's gonna work there.
