Dad loved driving around and looking for bargains. He usually found them in areas of the city where the only reason you would be there is if you were scoring crack.

What does "scoring crack" mean? Thanks!

Crack is an illegal drug, actually a powerful form of cocaine. "Scoring crack" means buying it.

The sentence implies that it is a dangerous part of an inner city, where you would find people selling drugs.
