What does "dry days" mean? The days free of wines?

Dry January?
Dr Dillner: Some claim a booze-free month will do you good, but to protect your liver in the long term, you need to ensure a few dry days every week

But wine makes one's mouth dry/thirsty. As I read it in Chinese background, "dry days" lookes like "wine days" or "booze days," quite contrary to its English meaning.

I wonder its origin.

i think it has more to do with the dryness occuring due to not putting the liquid in one's mouth...

RP is pretty much spot on. This might not tell the exact origin but it will help you dive into the term "dry" as it pertains to not drinking as opposed to a particular characteristic of drinking a given wine.
