@gollum,
Id add a cold cube of calcium carbonate to raise the pH. Or a teeny bit of table salt(a teeny pinch to a 16 oz glass)

@gollum,
I'd think it depends on the pollution level of where the rain is happening. If I were in some parts of Japan, I sure as hell wouldn't drink it.

As FM wrote, the ph level might need a bit of a boost.

"The pH of "normal" rain has traditionally been given a value of 5.6. However scientists now believe that the pH of rain may vary from 5.6 to a low of 4.5 with the average value of 5.0."

"The pH in the upper portion of a cloud is much higher. The final rain droplet has an average pH of 4.2 in the Northeast U.S.

In Los Angeles, the pH of fog has been measured at 2.0 - about the acidity of lemon juice. "

Rain usually requires some sort of particle for the moisture to condense about. I would want to know exactly what that particle was before I drank it.

@Ragman,
Hmm. I thought pure water had a ph of 7. I wonder what is in it?

@gollum,
Rain water has carbonic (H2CO3) and sulphuric (H2SO4) acid. Of course, pure water may only exist in a chem lab.

@Ragman,
and Nitric acid from all the NOx exhausts. A little amonia would help buffer the acid rin

@farmerman,
And the ammonia...comes in the soil as a buffer when farm animals pee, correct?
