@tsarstepan,
I think I'm calling him an entertainer, actually.

@edgarblythe,
November 28th, 2013. My 42nd birthday. It's called
"Tsarstepan's 42nd Birthday End of Days Bash."
The apocolypse is so bloody arbitrary! Surprised

@MontereyJack,
It was a good excuse to eat a chocolate donut, given that the calories wouldn't matter after today....

Darn, now that I'm still here, I'll have to find some other excuses to finish the rest of the box. I may start celebrating the lengthening of the days. Smile

@MontereyJack,
MJ, I think you're a bit confused! Time as we know it today didn't exist until 1884.

@ossobuco,
You can call Finn the Grinch Who Stole the End of the World. Maya are (and were) mostly in EST. It was never THEIR prediction. Dec. 21 is just the end of a very long cycle in their calendrical system (which is made up of interlocking repeating cycles and has been in use to one degree or another for more than 2000 years). The next very long cycle starts right up again as soon as this one finishes (i.e. today), nothing ending about it as far as the Maya are (and were) concerned. Just New Age nutballs, catastrophists, and millenial wannabees.

@MontereyJack,
Well. Of course.

Don't tell me it was taken seriously by more than the usual nut jobs in the USA?

Surely people understand the arbitrary nature of any calendar?

@dlowan,
No, mostly we made jokes about it. However there seem to have been major flaps about it in Russia, and they cancelled a bunch of schools today in Michigan.

@roger,
Apparently inmates in a women's prison recently went crazy and rioted and it was chalked up the the impending end of the world (In Russia this is)

@wandeljw,
Reminds me of a book, "The Leftovers" by Tom Perrota (not to be confused with the Left Behind series), about the folks in a suburban NJ town after millions around the world inexplicably disappear.

Excellent read.
