I have 2 young cats (male and female) at my home which has no garden. They are good half of the day but they sometimes go nuts, they sometimes go chasing each other in the house and go over the tables and scratches my furniture clothes with their nail and they once dropped my laptop from the table and slammed the ground until they drive me crazy so I sometimes beat them but they do that every day and I am beginning to question the way of beating the cat as always my parents say until I finally decided to lock them up for a while in the bath room where their food and drink is. What makes my cat go crazy and how can I make them stop at least from scratching the furniture.

@Tima87,
How dare you beat your cats? They don't go nuts, they are being cats.If the cats drive you crazy, then give them away to a good home.

@trying2learn,
The last thing I need is someone telling me how I dare and how I don't either give me a good replay and a way to deal with them or don't replay at all.

@Tima87,
Yes I again will write how dare you beat a cat. Either declaw them or get a scratching post. How about talking to them and the words no and yes?

@Tima87,
She is exactly right. Your cats are doing what cats have to do, especially young ones. As she says, get them a scratching post. If that doesn't work, you should find them a new home. If that's too much trouble, get them declawed.

It is insanity to beat an animal for being an animal.

You beat a cat. A little, tiny cat. I hate cats, and i would never beat a cat. Why don't uou find a newborn baby and kick him down the street? You are one sick creep.

@Tima87,
I have had many cats and words go a long way. Cats are not stupid. Let them be cats and talk to them. They understand more than others think.

@roger,
Oh, God. Have I said that I everyday pick a gun and shot them in the head or throw them as a baseball, its just a small beat like you are knocking on a door. And BTW I do love them; they come to me every day so that I hold them to sleep in between my arms. I am asking for an advice not for blaming, if you please.

@Tima87,
You've had advice.

Scratching post. Declaw. New home. At a certain age, spay or neuter.

@roger,
What will make cats prefer a scratching post over other things ?

spay or neuter ? what is the meaning of that ?

@Tima87,
The advice was given, declaw then or get a scratching post. You wrote you beat them. If you love them so much and they love you, then follow Roger's advice.

@Tima87,
What about using a laser pointer to play with it to draw the energy from their bodies, is that OK ?

@Tima87,
I've heard they like that, but I worry about what might happen if it hit them in the right part of they eye. That will have to be your decision.

On the scratching post, get one tall enough that they can stretch their whole bodies' to reach. They are not so much scratching or 'sharpening their claws' as stretching. It's best to get the post set up and put the cat against it. Cat will automatically extend the claws into it, and they know it is their place to scratch. They will still try the furniture from time to time. A squirt bottle convinces them the furniture is not a good idea. All that is left is the scratching post.

@trying2learn,
Look, my apologies for the earlier post but I am really not a bad or cruel person. I never had a cats before and I don't know how to deal with them but that doesn't make that I don't love them. Anyway, thanks. Smile

@Tima87,
All that hitting a cat does is create much fear. Hitting is cruel! They do not respond positively to force. They respond with rewards and understanding of their behavior. Please find a good cat behavior book and read it and/or speak with a veterinarian.

All cats....especially those kept inside.....have crazyntimes. Cat owners call it mad hour.

Inside cats need vigorous play (which is what they are giving to themselves when they go mad), environmental enrichment, places where they can scratch (they instinctively need to do that) and attention.

I would buy a selection of toys for your cats, as well as try simple things like scrunched up pipe cleaners, small lolls in cellophane, bits of paper....anything they can pretend to stalk and hunt. Poles with toys on the end are great, as when you play with your cats, they can leap and run.

I have several Da Birds, which seem to be the most loved toys of my cats. I also have squeaky mice, a laser wand, and lots of bits and pieces The cats have chosen for themselves.

Basically, they are intelligent little hunters. They need exercise and lots of things to stimulate them. The more you play with them, the happier everyone will be.

They aren't meaning to be naughty, and hitting them won't help at all.

There is a good cat place, called cat forum.com which is bursting with cat experts.

I have several different things my cats scratch on plus things for them to play on and perch on, called cat posts or trees. These are worth their weight in gold!

My cats also have crinkly tunnel to play in. Cardboard boxes and papprr bags are also very enticing to cats.

@Tima87,
Tima87,

Please DO NOT declaw your cats. It is mutilation . It renders the cat defenseless , can't protect itself if attacked, can't climb to escape. Declawing also affects a cat's gait. Keep your cats' nails clipped; you may need a person to help, one to hold the cat, one to clip nails. Use a special clipper or scissors. I use a cat nail scissor that has rounded tips and an inner hole that allows me to position the claw. If your cats have black claws, and you can't see the vein, you might want to let a groomer or a vet handle the clipping. Some cats are amiable to having their nails clipped, others not so much....understatement.
Since the 70's I've had six cats. Two went to the vet for nail clipping, the others were OK with my doing their nails.

I definitely recommend neutering, especially if you have a male and a female. Don't wait, even if they are the same sex, there are other cats around who will get to your cats.

Enjoy your cats, and give them a good home. You've received excellent advice from others on this post. I hope you are becoming more accustomed to cats in your home, in your life.

@nextone,
Thanks for the reply.

Since you have more expertise with cats, how could I tell my cats that what they are doing wrong without having to resort to force ?
