It is. Yes.
Bear in mind that people post in different states of emotional health and mental health.
Who knows if a vitriolic eruption in this forum
is a manifestation of residual resentment
of some childhood misfortune long ago ?

Yes. I agree with your post.
Its good to know with whom u r conversing.
I have made it a point to have filled out my own personal profile.

It 'd be good if a lot more participants took the time to fill theirs out.

Well, as far as this forum is concerned,
he has given us (for free) everything that we have.
When Abuzz collapsed, he gave us this opportunity,
somewhere else to hang around.

In my experience, it is really pretty comfortable.

Question: Let's say that I have Mr. X on ignore. He can't see anything I write, and I can't see anything he writes. I'm on a thread in which Mr. X is participating. People are responding to this person. Will I be able to peak to see what Mr. X is saying? Or will I be blocked from that? If I won't be able to see what he's saying, this approach seems a bit extreme.

@Roberta,
I agree. I don't think we need to go so far.

What I don't understand is why, if someone blocks me, I can't see what they wrote. Wouldn't they be blocking me so they don't see MY posts? And so I can't pm them? Why wouldn't I be able to see their posts?

I think this is going to be very strange.

@Roberta,
You might be able to see it if someone quoted him.

That 's true NOW (and it has resulted in some reprieves).
I 'm not clear as to whether that will be true in the future or not.

I also agree.
I think Robert has it PERFECT already now.
( If he wants to improve on perfection, then maybe he
can give us another half hour of editing time. )

IF I have understood the concept accurately,
the idea is that blocking will have the effect of reciprocally
excluding both parties (the blocker and the blockee)
from one another 's cognitive universes. Each vanishes -- for ever.

I think this is going to be very strange.
I wonder whether we will be able to cancel our choice to block someone,
if we re-consider, or not ?

WILL forgiveness be possible ??

I think the new proposed blocking process is great. I can't wait to see what A2K feels like with it running.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. They can always turn it off if the whole place goes to hell.

@rosborne979,
At any rate, it looks interesting. I'm happy to wait and see as well.

Now, I'll tell you what I would really like. On the new posts menu, I would like to see the most recent post from anyone except whoever I have on ignore. If it turns out the most recent unread post if from that ignoree, it simply would not appear as a new post. I get darn tired of opening a thread only to find there are no posts new to me except Chucklehead's. I could care less if Chucklehead sees my posts, however.

@roger,
I agree - also that if we thumbs down a thread (nursing HAAD, Colossus, etc), we don't see them, either. I thumbs down a lot Smile

@Mame,
Ya know, I don't. If someone only posts to Lovettes, or whatever, I ignore them just because the thumb might hurt someone's feelings. They have fun their way, I have fun my way. I just don't want to see them.

The HAAD posters are usually one time posters, anyway.

I'll tell you one thing, this place is not going to "go to hell" because of a feature like this. That's the kind of silly melodramatics Whackeye and Billrm indulge in. There are enough new members coming here, and sticking around, all the time, that even if people did lose interest and leave, there'd just be a new core of regularly posting members who never knew any other conditions here.

I agree that it will not "go to hell" (or anywhere else).
It will be very interesting to see whether, or how much,
posting behavior is affected by the forthcoming Tantalus Field defense.

For MY part, I suspect that I will be a little less likely to target anyone,
than I have been so far. I have no one in mind to condemn to oblivion. We 'll see what happens.

Look at the a2k's review here: http://www.webstatzone.com/stat/able2know.org.htm

The funniest thing is that the most visits that this site gets is from India. Possibly an explanation to the spam that creeps up and grows here.

As compared to physicsforums.com
http://www.webstatzone.com/stat/physicsforums.com.htm

It'd be interesting to see if and/or how the data for this site changes after a year after this new "block" button is introduced.

@aspvenom,
wow, is Robert really making $35k a month with this? He had just a couple of years ago said that this was mostly a rev neutral project.

@hawkeye10,
I think that maybe a very bad estimation.

Another review site says that a2k makes $ 6,302 monthly from ad revenues.

@hawkeye10,
According to the site, it says "Est. Servers Cost: Between $20 Monthly and $50 Monthly"

You may have to ask Robert himself f you want a more accurate value.
