INTERESTING SOCIOLOGICAL EFFECT IN A2K, QUA COMING CHANGE

@engineer,
As Region has now twice - on two different threads - provided the link to the conversation I had with the owner of this site on the Wikileaks thread, I think I'm entitled to respond to the scrutiny which that conversation has received.

Quote:
Robert said his motivation for this particular change was one annoying poster who kept trying to engage him in a conversation....

Yes he did say that. Or something to that effect. That I'd been trying to talk to him for something like two years, which is absolutely not true. As I pointed out during that conversation.

What I had in fact done was question some of his recent statements (on only two threads, as best i can recall) like ...
... that drone attacks in Yemen are acceptable to him, when they aren't in Pakistan. I asked him why he held that view because I couldn't see the difference.

... like saying Julian Assange is just using the possibility extradition to the US as an excuse to avoid facing "rape" charges in Sweden. When there is plenty of evidence on the record of flaws in the prosecution's case against Assange ...

Never mind your own particular views on the use of drones in the middle east, or Julian Assange or Wikileaks, I was asking/ questioning statements that had been made in discussion.
Every single one of you who has engaged in debate on this site has done that, surely?

But to cut a long story short ... to then be told that I was the reason for the planned blocking changes on A2K, because I was so "annoying" to the owner of this site ... simply beggars belief.
That's a ridiculous thing to say.
And pretty offensive, too, I might add.

If management of A2K decides on particular changes to how this site operates, then fine. Management should own those decisions. I accept that users don't have any say in these decisions these days.
But at least have the integrity to be be upfront about those decisions & not blame them on any one particular site user.
That's bullshit.
.

Thay will forget the change and let their true character shine thru.

Yes; and neutrals.

Yes; I admire, respect and welcome
what Robert posted about Individual Rights (tho I like the status quo as it is).
I had FORGOTTEN the name of the Tantalus field and also of the name (Mirror, Mirror)
of the Classic Star Trek episode wherein it appeared. THANK U for reminding me.
Memory failures bother me.
I have inscribed it in my list.

It's also a matter of how much we all process every single day.
I have little doubt that there are plenty of folks here who wish no harm
to the crossword puzzle/word games people, but also would be more than ecstatic
if they never saw a Lovatts or Ditloids, etc. inquiry ever again.
I just close those, but I don't mind their posting them; harmless.

How does "TOS" fit into that??
I didn't get that.

Jespah,
Point of Information, if I may:
Yesterday, I found that the system allowed me to edit a post
a few minutes beyond the 1O minute limit. I was surprized.
Has the software been amended to allow us additional time to edit our posts ?
IF it has, may we know the new amount of time that we have to edit ?

If it has not been changed (or if that change was only brief & momentary)
then I wonder whether u woud consider granting us any extra time to edit our posts
(maybe half an hour?) if that is not inconvenient.

Same here, the old feature was just about perfect IMO. Robert said his motivation for this particular change was one annoying poster who kept trying to engage him in a conversation but it seems like the old ignore function would fix that just fine. Still, if someone were ignored by enough people, they would find the boards empty under the new scheme so maybe that is what he is after.

He specifically, as I recall, said it WASN'T about any particular member.

Can't do links on my iPad...it's page 188 of wikileaks hits the fan....Rob's second to last post on that page.

He clarifies that the new, blocking, ignore feature has nothing to do with you.

Miss Olga has a serious problem with accepting that someone does not agree with her, and just letting it go. Nothing RG said about the proposed new method for a moment suggested that it was aimed at her.

Way too much drama goin' here lately.

@djjd62,
It is about you, it's all about you, it's always about you. When this new fature is implemented, A2K will turn into a big, empty, echoing chamber for you.

TOS = The Original Series (so as to distinguish it from The Next Generation (TNG), etc.

I had forgotten the name (Tantalus Field) and had to do a little digging to look it up. I'm finding my memory is considerably better if I've had enough sleep and not a lot of pressure on me. Talking too fast - and suddenly I end up with almost aphasia, and a word is just temporarily lost. So I hear ya on that.

Re the editing time; I don't control it. I wonder why you had extra time. A great mystery, I think.

It happened again when I was posting last night.
Its nice. It makes me feel FREE.
Maybe successfully editing after 15 minutes or more?? I 'm not sure how long.
If its happening to me, then presumably, everyone has that extra freedom.

I was speculating that maybe in working on the forthcoming changes,
possibly Robert became inspired to bless us with extra generosity of additional editing time for us.

IF we now have more time to edit our posts,
then please accept my gratitude for that kindness.

@OmSigDAVID,
There's a glitch in the edit routine. Supposed to be 15 min max. However when you get the message refusing you access, try clicking on your "Show the previous page" icon and sometimes it will let you back in the edit box for further work

@OmSigDAVID,
I haven’t been here that long but I feel there isn’t anything wrong with the ignore feature, it’s the voting that needs to be done away with. How many new users have shown up only to post and get voted down?

What incentive does that give them to return? Absolutely none, that’s why facebook didn’t add the unlike feature. It would have killed facebook just like it will here. There is a million other forums out there and most do not have a voting option.

@EqualityFLSTPete,
The voting feature is ridiculous. Whatever Robert intended it to be hasn't been remotely realized.

New members should ignore the feature.

There really is only a relatively small number of members who abuse it.

Unfortunately they've ruined the feature, but they hardly speak for the entire community.
