"Review literature" or "Review the literature"?

You know that to write an academic article you have to read a lot relevant academic articles (those closely related will be finally listed as References). Do we call this process as "Review Literature" or "Review the Literature"?

That is, I don't know whether to add "the" or not.

It all depends where it sits in use in language, Ori. First, I wouldn't capitalize it unless it was being used as a title or heading.

If such was the case then I could see the first being used. If this was part of some text it seems that the literature under discussion, being under discussion and therefore specific would likely attract a 'the' but no capitals.

But again, CONTEXT CONTEXT CONTEXT.

absolutely

on invoices, I've seen the activity listed as "Literature Review".

In the body of reports, I usually see it in the past tense.

I am performing a review of the literature. I am reviewing the literature. I did a literature review.
