@thack45,
Word! There are indeed worse things to flock to.

I wonder how birds of a feather find each other to flock together with? It's not as though they have Twitter or anything.

I wonder why she isn't being prosecuted.

a. No mens rea.

b. Not a great deal of mens at all.

c. The priest knew.

d. It would cost the state a pretty penny, gain nothing and generally be a dumb thing to do.

e. Most people aren't horrible enough to want to prosecute an old person who is dumb enough to think she was helping.

@edgarblythe,
In that case, I'd probably tip her. But definitely NOT at the same rate as someone who took my order and brought it to my table.

I hate it when I go in counter service restaurants and see tip jars at the counter or next to the register. I have a lot of respect for good waiters and waitresses...that was my first real job...and they deserve to be tipped well. But I think it's ridiculous for every place that serves food to think they automatically deserve to be tipped. In particular, if I have to get my own silverware, drinks, napkins, etc., and carry my own food to a table, I think the tip belongs in my pocket.

@Eva,
None of these people are making great wages, but neither am I.

@edgarblythe,
Exactly. Do YOU expect tips on top of the wages you earn for doing your job?

I teach. We are not well paid. No one has ever offered me a tip for serving their child. Nor have I expected one.

@edgarblythe,
Ed, gram and I go to fur's a lot. it's close and she likes it. (I have a salad)

the little latina girls take real good care of us, and make minimum wage.

I leave a dollar if they were helpful, but not if they are acting for tips.

I tip everyone; especially my favorite call girl.

One less thing to worry about.

Anybody know if there is a tipping etiquette in a cafeteria? When we ate at Luby's, a person hovered quite a bit and offered to bring us drinks and such. I felt I should tip, but was uncertain if others do so.

We used to take the girls to Old Country Buffet when they were little. We'd leave a buck or two at the end of the meal for the bus person (usually latino and definitely working for minimum wage). We didn't feel that it was required in any way, but it was definitely appreciated.
