Thanks for the greeting. I see many familiar names here and several I am glad not to see. Right now am betwixt and between. It's hard to wean yourself off all the abusive language on the abuzz all at once. It's like sticker shock.

I assure you that if the same amount of money were spent to prevent war as is being spent for the war, everyone in the world would love us and would never think of harming us. Same ideology as prison, it costs $50,000 a year to keep someone in prison; but there is nary a dime spent to keep them out of prison. So ask me, what is wrong with this picture?

Very true. It is so frustrating to see that. Unfortunately, we are afraid.

About this Smallpox Fear...

I've read most of the link that Matrix provided. Those photographs are horrifying. Doesn't everybody get a touch of excema at one point or another? Spoke to the Mr. & he said. Yes, just as your flu shot could have made you quite ill, too. Hmmm. Yes, I signed something, but there were no photographs.

It appears the best plan is to know we may have to risk having a smallpox vaccination if there were an outbreak.

I read a news article this a.m. from Charles Piller of the LA Times who thought we would be rushing things to immediately be vaccinated. He went into the details of how such a terrorist attack might happen and what a sick & SmPox-contagious person might look like. (Icky -- running pustules... etc.) Apparently there were also very complicated & dangerous "bomb designs" developed by the Russians... information that could easily have been leaked by some fools to some other ones.

No smallpox anywhere since Somalia in 1977. Why did it have to be Somalia???

Hi, Piffka...

You might want to tell PFK that the reason people used to get ill from flu shots was because they used to use a live vaccine. That caused most of the problems with it. Now, if people have a reaction to the flu shot, it is probably because they are allergic to eggs. If you get ill after having a flu shot, you are probably ill with something you had already been exposed to, but your illness isn't being caused by the shot itself.

On the other hand, the Smallpox vaccine is known to be very dangerous, and many people will become seriously ill after getting it.

Hi, au1929...

A2K was never meant as a replacement for Abuzz, and there are still a lot of people who are using both sites. That said, I know what you mean when you say, "It's hard to wean yourself off all the abusive language on the abuzz all at once. It's like sticker shock." It is unusual after all this time to be able to carry on a discussion with others without someone coming in and verbally attacking all involved...If you ever miss the abuse, you could always just throw yourself against the wall a few times. Laughing

Probably. There's a Col. Zinger registered on this site, too, but I saw on Abuzz where he was complaining about this site being too boring...Hope it stays "boring".

well, I don't think the powers that be here are as lax as they are on abuzz. So.... I think that people as obnoxious as he would be booted in short order.

I hope so. Besides, last night I noticed that they were all being kept busy by a bunch of new questions posed by teenage boys re sex and picking up girls. They should be busy giving advice for a while, anyway. Poor kids...

Matrix500- In order to complete your registration for A2K, you have to submit a valid E Mail address. An E Mail is sent to the prospective member and he clicks on it to finish registration.

I would suspect that a number of people who have 0 posts registered with a phony E Mail address, and could not complete their registration. For a short time that feature was off, but it is on now, to stay!

Hi, Phoenix...
The only reason I know about Zinger is that after someone posted a link to A2K on Abuzz a while ago, Zinger told everybody that he'd been here and some of the things he said led me to believe that he may have been. Of course, if he really does show up, I'm sure it won't take long for him to be "excused" (polite term) from the site.

There are also some Abuzzers who are still looking at this site as being an evil entity, trying to take Abuzzers away from Abuzz. They've been here, but refuse to post. Don't know why they can't find the good in both sites, but who knows...I actually prefer A2K, but I still go back to Abuzz for the Rainforest thread and will post on any other thread that seems worth while, although those are getting to be fewer and fewer.

Matrix500- Just today, Jespah wrote up an announcement about what guests can see at A2K:

Link to Jespah's Announcement

So a guest can observe most, but not all, that is going on here, but HE CAN'T POST.

I am quickly losing patience with those people who perceive Abuzz and A2K as "them and us". There are millions of sites on the Internet, and Abuzz & A2K are only two of them. People are free to pick and choose to become involved with websites as they please.

Thanks for the link, Phoenix. I hadn't seen it, yet, but I'm not surprised. With Google, I think that just about everything on the Internet is open to the public anymore. I do like the PM feature here because it allows us to say some things to each other that we may not want the rest of the world to be privy to, without giving out our e-mail addresses to everyone.

I don't understand the "us and them" thing either, but I feel that if they feel that strongly about it, then it's their loss. I'd rather check out both sites to get a broader perspective on things, but for others, I guess that may be too scary.
