The monkey saw a tiger. It climbed up a tree.

If the above sentences are joined, which of the following sentences is correct?

No sooner had the monkey seen a tiger than it climbed up a tree.

No sooner did the monkey see a tiger than it climbed up a tree.

Thanks.

There is nothing in the original pair of sentences to indicate which animal climbed the tree. They are a very poor choice.

Thanks, Contrex.

I have amended the sentences as follows. I hope they are OK now.

The monkey saw a tiger. The monkey climbed up a tree.
If the above sentences are joined, which of the following sentences is correct?

No sooner had the monkey seen a tiger than it climbed up a tree.

No sooner did the monkey see a tiger than it climbed up a tree.

Thanks.

Your two sentences are in this form: Thing A happened. Thing B happened. There is nothing in them to say that the monkey climbed the tree immediately after, or as a result of, seeing the tiger. However in your suggested sentences you are using the construction "No sooner had [thing A happened] than [thing B happened]. This means that the monkey climbed the tree instantly after seeing a tiger. It is adding something that is not implied or stated in the original two sentences. Possibly you could say "The monkey climbed a tree after it saw a tiger".
