If it continues to rain, the soccer match will be cancelled.

Are the following sentences the correct transformation of the above sentence?

1. Unless it continues to rain, the soccer match will not be cancelled.
2. The soccer match will not be cancelled unless it continues to rain.

Thanks.

@tanguatlay,
2 is more correct - 1 is okay, but it sounds, I don't know, funny.

Not exactly, no, to either one. The soccer match could conceivably be cancelled for other reasons, for example a tsunami washes all the players away. But I'd go with 2 too, since it's clearer and more direct.

@tanguatlay,
I'd stick with the original, or perhaps insert "then" in place of the comma.

Or "the soccer match will be cancelled if it continues to rain."

@tanguatlay,
What is the purpose of the "transformation", MsTan?

The question is from a workbook. I wonder whether the answers are correct.

@tanguatlay,
From a logic point of view, both transformations are incorrect. The first statement is:

<If Rain then Cancel>

Both answers essentially say:

<If not Rain, then not Cancel>

That is not an equivalent statement. As someone already mentioned, the match could be cancelled for other reasons.
