I've never got the hang of superstitions, and don't really have any. There are always some you don't know about, that you're infringing, every day!

Jeez - I lived for many years with a black cat!

I've never heard that one about the score. See what I mean!

I'd say that it's just protecting yourself against that mild form of hubris when one points out a good score but the game is not yet over. Sorry to say, you're asking for it. Footie fans know this well!

Keep that head ducked and say things like... they never do this well, what a SUR-prise. Then look up and say "My oh my, is the weather changing???" That should keep the score intact! LOL

Of course, everybody knows that keeping black cats is a way of innoculating yourself against the black cat terrors.

Wow! Did anybody watch the 49er vs Giants game yesterday? It was one of the most amazing comebacks in football history. c.i.

We heard about it at the tavern where we were picking up dinner. A guy comes up to Mr.K and starts discussing the game. Mr.K is a little taken aback as the guy has obviously been... well... bending his elbow. However, the upshot was, the man through his slurring and disbelief was able to explain the amazing thing about this most amazing comeback... apparently from a 34-14 win to a 39-34 loss or some such thing.*

See Margo? Somebody was apparently talking that score before the game was over!

*I will point out that in keeping with my New Year's Resolution to have more fun I said very sweetly, at a pause in the conversation.... "Oh, was this a basketball game???" The guy went into shock. heeheeheeee

The final score was 39 to 38. The Giants had a chance to win the game with a field goal with six seconds on the clock, but the quarterback fumbled the ball, and started running with it instead of throwing it to the ground to stop the clock. He'll never make that mistake again! Wink c.i.

Speaking of superstition and the game...

I was watching it while the gf talked to her mom on the phone. The maternal party wasn't watching the game because she is a rabid Giants fan, and every time she watches, they lose. So she never watches. Anyway, I kept getting handed the phone to update her on the game.

The NFL rules state that the you cannot spike the ball on a long snap. It's a penalty, though I don't know what the penalty would be. Could it be loss of possession? I know of no other penalty so severe. So, what the holder did was correct, his only option was to run outside the tackles and throw it out of bounds, or to a receiver. In either case the game is likely over.

But it's beside the point. 49ers WIN! Ha ha ha Jeremy Shockey, see who gets the last "shhhhh"!!! I was so mad at the early play calling I was ready to fire Mooch myself, then, a miracle!

cjh, I'm sure I'm not the only person not aware of that NFL rule on grounding the ball on a "long snap." Seems that the penalty is what matters, so if you can find out what that is, we can all relax and look forward to our next run off game. c.i.

Taking a penalty is still better than letting the clock run out. What was the down? I've forgotten this. I know it wasn't fourth. If it wasn't third, though, a loss of down is no big deal.

patiodog, I think it was third down, but only six seconds left on the clock. c.i.

Well, now everyone knows that the officials blew it by not calling pass interference on the 49ers. The penalties should have offset and the Giants would have had another chance at the 42-yard field goal. C'est la vie. They probably would've missed it anyway.

cjh, You were/are right! The Giant's should have had another chance to kick, but that's water under the bridge now. It's too bad that the Giant's coaches didn't challenge that call. The 49ers got a break. Mariuchi only said, that's a 'bummer.' Wink c.i.

You can't challenge a non-call.

cjh, But it was a "call." The penalties were offsetting, but it really wasn't, because the pass interference call was the correct one, and that should have stood. c.i.
