Which of the following is the correct sentence?

1. The jellyfish lives in the water.
2. The jellyfish live in the water.
3. The jellyfish lives in water.
4. The jellyfish live in water.

I think #4 is fine.

Thanks.

Jellyfish is the singular and the plural form of that noun. All four sentences are correct. Without knowing more about what you are attempting to describe, there is no way to answer your question.

@Setanta,
Thanks, Setanta.

If I want to say that the jellyfish (plural) have water as their habitat, which of the sentences would best describle this?

@Region Philbis,
What about #5

Jellyfish live in the water.

Or #6

Jellyfish live in water.

@Miss L Toad,

Miss L Toad has provided le mot juste, it appears, but context is important in this instance.

If Tangy will supply two or three sentences of his piece, we could select the best form of words.
