Using the North Carolina Model that "when a study results in a conclusion that you oppose then you make the conclusion illegal" are we getting to a slippery slope of science by fiat over fact?

The last time science and reason was reduced to fiat the world was flat and the middle of the universe. The result was 1000 years of fuedalism where 90% of western civilization slowly died---Hurray nobody expects a 21st Century Spanish inquisition (as brought to you by Rick Santorum).
