@sozobe,
When you relate that chart to the historical gas price chart it makes a lot of sense to me.

I was involved with the trucking industry for about a decade. When the prices really zoomed up, starting in late 2006, truckers really started to run into problems. Truck leases were given up, there was a surge in reports of stolen/burned trucks, smaller trucking firms went under, large ones laid off drivers ... things got nasty in the industry in the 3rd quarter of 2007 ... the balance of the economy seemed to follow along about 6 months behind. Truckers are like the canaries in the coal mine of the North American economy.

@revelette,
Rasmussen - one of the only polls showing Romney in the lead - has now moved back to a tie today.

@H2O MAN,
There were mighty market forces at work -- some of them set in motion by Bush's failed policies, some out of his control -- that could not be instantaneously reversed. The trends that began under Bush continued until Obama was able to get measures in place (like the stimulus) that THEN turned things around.

@sozobe,

Maybe so, but all of Obama's policies have been epic failures and the death spiral he has put this country in is
going to very hard to reverse. Four more years of the same failures isn't the solution, give Romney a chance.

@H2O MAN,
No, that's exactly what the graph shows.

Obama's policies have been working. His economic policies, for example, brought the US back from the brink and outperformed other countries that were buffeted by the same worldwide economic circumstances.

The coal mines are being shut down by Obama and this puts truckers out of work.

@H2O MAN,
Nope, the large-scale problem in trucking in 2006, 2007 going into 2008 was not related to anything to do with Mr. Obama - unless you're claiming he was responsible for the economy in 2006.

In which case, Mr. Bush was really messing up big-time to not notice some guy out of Illinois had taken over managing the U.S. economy.

Posting the same thing on two different threads is a shout for attention...

Now that the state polls show Obama winning the swing states he needs, and the national polls have shown that Romney has lost his lead, are you still confident in Romney's victory? If so, why?

How did Mr. Obama manage to have such a strong effect on the U.S. economy before he ran for president?
