I'm sorry, but that's simply incorrect. Please read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Commission_on_Fiscal_Responsibility_and_Reform

The official commission the prez put together failed to issue a report. The report McG posted was the one that was proposed to be adopted, but didn't receive enough votes.

In fairness, this is a very common mistake for people to make - I see many articles casually referring to the 'Simpson-Bowles report' as if those were actual recommendations from the commission.

@McGentrix,
Quote:
What do they have to say about Romney's tax proposal? ABC's Jake Tapper reported that both of these two presidential advisory boards recommended exactly what Romney proposed.

Now that is funny.

Which tax proposal of Romney's are they talking about? Because I don't see anything specific in his proposal that matches Simpson-Bowles other than that one vague point.

I guess you could claim Romney matched Simpson-Bowles if you ignore the other 30 some points Simpson-Bowles included in their proposal on deficit reduction.

It's just the same warmed-over GOP message, repeated as a panacea for all problems, no matter what they look like: lower taxes, everything will be great!

Actually Simpson-Bowles would raise revenues to 21% of GDP from where it's been for most of the last 50 years.

It seems to me that anyone that wants anyone else to release their tax returns, for any reason, should also be willing to do the same thing.
Otherwise its pure hypocrisy.

I'm curious when you made voluntary contributions above and beyond your taxes MM. After all, it would be hypocrisy of the highest order for you to call for others to do it if you aren't willing to do the same thing.

Wouldn't it? Surely, you must think it would by hypocritical.

What are your sources saying --- that this report of Mr. Simpson's and Mr. Bowles did clear the vote? And that therefore there is a report of that commission?

@Thomas,
It was the report they made that just didn't receive 3 votes. That's the only difference between it being an official report and not. It's still the report they drafted and almost passed. The majority voted for it, just not the super majority. It doesn't change the fact that it was drafted by the committee.

@McGentrix,
It doesn't represent the views of the commission, or the official findings of anybody. Just like that letter you linked to doesn't represent the view of the other commission, either. Yet, these things are presented that way. Sloppy.

@McGentrix,
The commission met.

Some group of people drafted a report.

The commission did not vote to accept the report.

Obama put the 2 committees together to advise him on economics because he is a bit of a retard in that area considering he has nursed from the public teat his entire life and has no knowledge of how business works.

He hand picked people to be on the committees and they released reports but because 100% of the people on the committee don't all agree, and never will progressive democrats ever agree on something, you get to just discount the findings?

Obamabots unite! Hooooooo!

btw, McNerney was named Chairman of the President's Export Council by President Barack Obama. The only thing sloppy in this is your stubborn inability to think beyond your programming.

I would wager he knows as much about it as you do. I don't find your sentence here to be convincing of any sort of argument you are putting forward; it's just an emotional exhortation on your part.

In fact, 100% didn't need to agree to the document in question in order for it to be an official recommendation. Just 2/3rds, which is 66%. It failed to garner that many votes - lots of ideas do. Your exaggeration of this point doesn't lend credence to the argument you are trying to make.

You still haven't admitted that you didn't read the letter he wrote and didn't note the fact that he was writing 'on behalf of the members of the committee appointed by the private sector.' And not on behalf of the entire committee. The letter you link to isn't an official finding or recommendation; it's a group of businesspeople stating that their corporate taxes should be lowered, so they can be 'more competitive.' But you presented it as if it was some sort of official finding.

Which one of us is unable to think past their programming, exactly? The one who made not one but two errors in their posting and one who says that facts don't matter, because the other guy is a socialist or something.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-07-19/romney-gallup-poll-tax-returns/56333412/1?csp=34news

Quote:
A new snap poll taken Wednesday night from Gallup and commissioned by USA Today shows 54 percent of Americans believe presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney should release more than two years of tax returns. “Those calling for more disclosure include 75% of Democrats, 53% of independents and 30% of Republicans,” Gallup found.

Obama is going to keep beating Romney about the head and neck with this for some time to come.

Today, in an interview, Ann Romney (Mitt's wife) said:

Quote:
“We’ve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life.”

'You people,' eh? Somehow I doubt that this is going to signal an end to the matter.

@Cycloptichorn,
Romney basically said the other day that releasing his tax records would hurt him politically, so he won't do it.

This does tell "us people" all we need to know. All we need to know is that he's an arrogant plutocrat, who will calculate every decision for maximum political gain.
