@Linkat,

So we end at the Indian village - it was so poor and ended in a cheap gift shop where our authentic seminole indian was smoking a butt (not a peace pipe) - and selling plastic alligators.

Last year the Seminoles took in over a billion dollars from their Hard Rock Cafe chain, casinos and cattle holdings. Each tribe member earns a monthly stipend of around $10,000.(I have verified this through friends in the Brighton rez near Okeechobee)

The history of this band of 200 Native Americans that were never defeated by the US Govt is truly odd, strange and bizarre.
Just check out their general counsel, Jim Shore,61

The tribe's financial dealings with the State of Florida and the US government are murky at best as this series of newspaper articles chronicles

@panzade,
I am suspect that the authentic seminole indian in this authentic replica village was something other than a seminole indian. I'd image such a person would have better things to sell.

@Linkat,
Falling into that kind of tourist trap is not really a bad thing. Nature is adaptable, and by now they are probably part of the ecology.

Um, you didn't buy any avocados under the impression they were alligator eggs, did you?

@roger,
I didn't buy anything - although I was tempted just for the sake of the tackiness and fun - then I saw how much they were charging.

The young men were cute and fun so that was a bonus. Even if they laughed at us. (I was young and cute then too so all good).

Florida caregiver slapped, kicked patient then stripped naked; 911 call: 'It's unreal, totally unreal'

Florida home health aide Marchina Walker, 21, allegedly slapped and kicked her 68-year-old patient then stripping naked on Sunday afternoon, according to the Palm Beach Police Department. The healthcare worker put on Yvonne Waldrop's clothing and is accused of attacking the patient when she protested, WKMG-TV reported.

Walker then tore off the clothing and went nude in the home in the central coast town 75 miles southeast of Orlando, according to a 911 call from a man who rents a room there.

You guys have got to get here," the tenant of the house on the 800 block of Hawaii Ave. says on the call. "The girl is naked. She's walking around naked."

He later adds, "It's unreal, totally unreal. It's like I'm watching some Charlie Sheen show or something."

Police arrived around 2 p.m. and found Walker sitting naked and unresponsive to questioning on the floor of the garage, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez told the Daily News. The officers took Walker in for a psychiatric evaluation but will charge her after she's released, Florida Today reported.

"We have a probable cause affidavit waiting for her to take her into custody for felony battery on a person over 65," Martinez told WESH-TV.

Waldrop survived the incident without serious injury and told the TV station that Walker, who has acted as a home aide to her and her husband George for a year without anything strange happening, apparently suffered some kind of mental breakdown.

"She started kicking me, pushing me, she slapped me in my face, kicked me in my stomach," Waldrop said. “I was pretty scared."

@Linkat,
Why does almost every Florida news story involve the word naked?

Maybe the heat.

This is more of a PSA for Floridians, than a "news" story ....

Florida scientists: Don't touch this bug
Posted: Sep 03, 2014 8:29 AM
By: FOX 13 Tampa Bay Staff

As far as bugs go, caterpillars are usually pretty tame – except for one.

It's a fat, furry caterpillar that is popping up in trees across Florida, and it's known as the "puss caterpillar," or Megalopyge opercularis.

But whatever you do, do not touch this bug. Stay away from it, scientists say.

Its fur is actually covered in venom. Doctors from the University of Florida say the second you touch this caterpillar you feel instant, intense pain.

The pain is worse than a bee, jellyfish, or scorpion, and it can also cause vomiting and convulsions.

Doctors say be aware of them while working outdoors because they are known to fall out of trees.

We go further and this alligator comes right up to the boat -- cool huh, not so much, the operator taps him on his snout, he opens his mouth and the operators begins to feed the alligator marshmellows.

What a schmuck! One of the first things that one learns when you move to Florida is NOT to feed the alligators. They are normally shy of humans. If you feed them, they lose their fear of humans, and can become very dangerous.

Besides, feeding alligators is against the law. The operator of the attraction should have known better. I hope that someone reports him to the cops!

@Linkat,
Normally, the only problems that one has with alligators (there are many in my neighborhood) is if a very small dog goes too near the multitude of lakes (they are really man made retention ponds),

But Bear got back at the gator....

"The Orange, Texas, man — who only identified himself as “Bear” — shot and killed an 11-foot alligator in Burkart's Marina Monday because he believed it was the beast that ate Tommie Woodward last week"

Florida Man Arrested For Having Sex With An Alligator

Rupert Darwin, 59, kept a 12 foot alligator tied and blindfold for the last month, sexually assaulting the reptile multiple times a day. Collier County Sheriffs arrested Darwin on multiple counts of animal cruelty and one count of illegally keeping a wild animal. Excerpt from Darwin’s police statement: “The gator tried to eat me and this was revenge, pure and simple. I don’t have no sexual attraction to gators, but I wanted to teach this bitch a lesson. I could have just killed her, but that would have been too easy. She was getting what she deserved.”

I have heard some bizarre Florida stories, but this one blew me away! Shocked

Landscaper gets year in jail for running over ducklings with lawnmower

A Florida landscaper who ran over a family of ducks with his riding lawnmower has been sentenced to a year in jail.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 24-year-old Jason Scott Falbo II last week after he pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty charges.

Authorities say Falbo mowed down the ducks May 2 at the home of a family caring for them in Wellington. Police say nine ducklings died, while their mother and two ducklings survived.

The family says the ducklings were just a few days old. Boyd Jentzsch told police his family, including his 7-year-old son, watched from inside their home, screaming as the ducks were run over.

Also last week, Falbo pleaded guilty to domestic battery in an unrelated incident about a month before the duckling deaths.

Man tries to chew off fingerprints after arrest

A Florida man attempted to chew off his fingerprints while in a patrol car to avoid being identified by the police.

On Thursday, Lee County Sheriff detectives noticed a 2015 Mercedes that had been reported stolen and after stopping the vehicle, they found the driver, Kenzo Roberts, was using a fake ID, had a concealed firearm and possessed three fraudulent credit cards.

Surveillance video shows Roberts unsuccessfully trying to bite off his own fingerprints while in the backseat of the patrol car. Lee County Sheriff officials say Roberts has two felony warrants for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Woman known as 'Kayla Kupcakes' flashes Florida judge in court

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. --
A woman known as 'Kayla Kupcakes' decided to flash the judge overseeing her bond hearing.

Kupcakes, whose real name is Susan Marie Surrette, had been arrested on a disorderly intoxication charge, ABC affiliate WPLG-TV reports.

The court hearing started off fairly normal. Judge John Hurley asks her what she does for a living.

"I work as a hair dresser," Surrette tells the judge before unveiling her second career. "I'm an escort, too."

A website for Kayla Kupcakes shows she's "a porn star, escort and private dancer with a knack for some fetishes," WPLG-TV reports.

The court hearing then takes an even more bizarre turn as Surrette starts claiming she was mistreated in jail.

"I've been beaten up by police. And also this too," Surrette said as she lifted up her shirt to show the judge her breasts.

"Oh, my Lord," the judge responds.

Surrette's attorney then quickly jumped in to her defense.

"She's somebody that needs help," Surrette's attorney said. "She's not going to get the help that she needs at the jail."

The judge then set her bond at $100 and ordered that she get a medical evaluation.
