@realjohnboy,
Good plan.
As you know, I'm incompetent to be a commish. Will happily be in a scary name league.

@realjohnboy,
I like the idea of dividing into divisions or leagues, or conferences, or whatever we want to call them. Perhaps we could divide based on geography?

I'm not sure that the scorekeeping is any easier if there are multiple commissioners. Once the initial scoresheet is populated with countries and with peoples' picks, it doesn't make a difference if you're entering medals for six contestants or 26.

I realize that by saying how easy this is, I've put myself close to volunteering to keep score, and as defending champion I probably have an obligation to do so. (That's the prize that someone was asking about.) I'll volunteer to do so, with the caveat that scoring may be a bit delayed at times due to the fact that I'm getting married six days after the Olympics end, and wedding-related tasks may take priority over prompt scoring from time to time. If there's another volunteer who feels that they can take care of the scoring, though, I'd be happy to let them do so.

@tgordon92,
I can help with scoring. I setup a Google spreadsheet here (hope you can see it):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AjBRzgc7V3MGdEFPcnNnRjk2OUlZWm45YU9VbFloSHc

We don't have to use it--I'm open to other ideas. But once you enter all the initial picks, the scoring will auto update when the medal counts are entered. And with a Google doc, we can share the burden...

Let me know what you think.

@wheel158,
I'm also planning to track all scores with my own spreadsheet. Redundancy will be good.

@Jahiegel,
Jahiegel -- Kazakhstan is actually in Group C (there was a mistake in the originally-posted rules). Can you please revise?

@markr,
I agree. It's easy to make a mistake -- especially with the USA and China being split by gender.

On a side note: on your spreadsheet, do you record only the running medal tally (total), or do you list the medal count for each day separately? Just curious...

@wheel158,
wheel158,

I like your spreadsheet, but I may go with the one I used last time around. It's got a little less functionality (it doesn't automatically rank the teams), but will require a lot less data entry up front. I'll post it in the next couple of days.

I appreciate that other folks will be keeping their own spreadsheets. The redundancy will be helpful in catching my inevitable mistakes!
