Well, here's my hotel restaurant - http://www.jdvhospitality.com/hotels/hotel/15

and now I'll see if I can find any reviews. This has the benefit of being handy for those of us in the Union Sq area.

Well, hey, offhand it sounds like a pretentious souffle concocted over an afternoon of white wine and more by the person who wrote the script. Will see if I can find stuff from other than the hotel.

The dining room with the high ceiling might be good for reducing noise, and the Seville Room looks even better for a 'private' party.

This snotty little review intigues me, perhaps not for a whole 'spensive meal.

http://www.sfstation.com/restaurants/cortez/

The food might be good but I might like to throw fudge at the reviewer.

I'll go to the Slanted Door with you, Pdids, I am very enthused about vietnamese food in my lengthy but not very wide experience. I'd love to go there.....

but maybe not Friday night.

Oooh, I love the Slanted Door as an idea, but where the hell is Valencia, tap tap. Can't immediately find it, guessing a taxi or two. We'll get to the Embarcadero in any case, which is walkable from hotels, but maybe not Fri night.

Are we closing in? Postrio? Grand Cafe? Piperade? Seville Room?

As Mother would say:

PICK. ONE.

(Seriously, we need to make a reservation...)

I'm of the same mind as blatham; not choosy as to having enough dislikes that I would not be pleased if somebody else picked the restaurant. I'll go along with the majority choice(s). The only consideration would be the reqirement for tie and jacket - which I would prefer not to. If we're going fancy, please let us know, so we'll be prepared. Wink

I had an eye problem yesterday (reaction to eye drops, it's better today) and didn't review restaurants. One question is whether people mind taking taxi(s) Friday night, as if they do that'll limit the selection.

Will try to double check restaurants before work today, meaning soon, within the next hour.

OK, so far -

Postrio has four bells, the noisiest of the noise icons except for the firecracker icon.
Pacific (on the chronicle list, page 3 of this thread, under Union Square) is at Post and Mason (a couple of blocks from KGeorge hotel) has two bells, presumably quieter. Food review not as good though, but not horrible.
Pacifica

I'll keep looking.

Fleur d'Lys

This is very close, very quiet, definitely a jacket type place.

(I have time for about one more search, will check Piperade again.)

Oh, and the Rotunda sounds great but that is in Nieman Marcus and open only for lunch.
The restaurant in my hotel, the Cortez has four noise bells.

Solea

At Bush and Powell, we could walk to this. It may be noisier since this review.

Got to go now, back tonight.

PIPERADE REVIEW

This still looks good to me, is fairly quiet (according to chronicle list, and at $$ is much less expensive and presumably less formal than those listed above that are $$$$. Fish mentioned at end of review.

A taxi might or might not be needed, it's on Bush on the other side of Union Square I think, but maybe not. Forgot to look at exact address this time.

Will look later tonight for restaurants that mention whole crab in that whole list.

I admire the way you throw yourself to a task, osso.

Let's go to Piperade. I'll call and make the reservation with a confirmation of c.i. and spouse, blatham, D & d, the Diddies, Lola, you, jjorge, ...

... am I leaving anyone out?
