Will be back with a list of some galleries. I suspect the John Pence (an old fashioned landscape gallery) is close to where PDiddies are staying. There are some goodies at 49 Geary. if I remember right) and some on Sutter.. plus more in SOMA. Plus the newish Modern museum, near the Cafe Museo.

PDid, when is your Alcatraz tour..

We haven't scheduled it yet, osso, and may wait until the middle of the week to do so, unless there are others who want to go...

I'm thrilled that there is so much good shopping in Union Square, not to mention the restaurants and museums.

The shopping in Union Square is Gumps and Neiman Marcus and Macy's, I think. Plus, gee, Armani and some others are around there. Wait, I'll get the book - Saks Fifth Avenue, Wilkes Basheford, Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Jaeger, Shreve. Cristofle, Krizia, Gucci, Cartier, Tiffany, Brooks Brothers, Coach, MaxMara, Williams Sonoma, FAO Schwartz, Chanel, Rizzoli Books.... are all around there. (I pulled names at random from the Union Square pages.)

The street with more small scale charmers and good neighborhood cafes, is Union Street in the Pacific Heights/Marina district, north of Nob Hill... Union Street and some of its side streets..

That's why I like the Access book, it's got all that info and descriptions that a regular map doesn't, plus it has lots of neighborhood maps with the interesting places keyed to the map.

I'll be happy to function as central phone/address book. That is, if everyone sends me their phone numbers and/or hotel data, I'll return my cell number, and thus anyone wanting to contact anyone may do so through me. Bill Gates got rich this way, and perhaps I might too.

Sure, B.

CI is keeping a list too. I think info relaying from more than one point is smart logistically. Will look up Adagio's numbers and pm you my info.

Hmm, I just ran across the Irish Bank Bar and Restaurant with Harp and Guinness on tap. I think I've been in there a long time ago and liked it. I remember now Mikey talked about coming to the a2k gathering and also mentioned an irish pub.

I looked harder at where the Adagio is, using the callouts for other places on the Access book map. Sure enough, much as I suspected it isn't on Union Square itself. It's on Geary and Shannon Alley (and I see used to be called the Shannon Court before the recent renovation), which I think is two blocks from the King George on Mason, where the Pdiddies are staying.

A reminder: If you're coming, please send me your "real" name and mail address by PM. Got a 'surprise' gift for all attendees, and blatham is going to make up a participant list for us. Before I can share the names and addresses with blatham, I need an okay from each of you.

Hi all,

I am definitely coming.

I will be arriving at Wednesday 4-7 and will be staying with my brother and his wife. They are in the 'Sunset' neighborhood on 20th Ave a block or two from Golden Gate Park.

c.i. and Blatham have my cell phone number and Blatham has my brother's land line #. (c.i. I'll PM it to you too)

I think it would probably be wise for us to share our cell #'s with MULTIPLE members of our group however in order to coordinate meetup times/locations etc.

There seems to be an overabundance of good ideas re places to meet, things to do, and places to go!

For the record, my number one priority is to meet and get to know you all.
I hope it doesn't get too hectic trying to cram a weeks worth of sight-seeing into three days or that we become preoccupied with rushing hither and yon at the expense of socializing. having said that, I am pretty flexible, and perfectly willing to let others who know the city take the lead in the planning.

I DO have a particular interest in visiting Alcatraz if we can get up a group to do that.

jjorge, There is already some interest on the Alcatraz tour. Some of the wharf restaurants have gone downhill on food and service with high prices. We'll have to have osso recommend a seafood restaurant; I know dys loves king crabs. Wink

Me, I don't care if we do nothin. Well, eat, I'd like to eat out a few times, but it doesn't have to be fancy, despite my mention of teas at fancy hotels. I just take that as an indicator of our being free to walk in if we are in the neigborhood. I remember going into the Hays hotel in Washington DC, and my husband and I finding about thirty eyes on us. And we weren't dressed badly (that day).

Trying to figure out where we do nothin at.

I'd be up for Alcatraz, at least in going there - I am not immediately interested in the place, though I might get interested, but the ride - if it was in the daytime.
(A friend was in the movie... John McKinney. Not the star but a speaking part.)

Or the ferry...
