Verification methods vary from company to company. In many, the only verification is done by the employee. That is, many employees keep their own records, and compare their record of hours worked to the hours stated on the check stub.
By the way, for employees paid by the hour, the hours and pay rates are required to be reported on the check stub. The minimum standard is a matter of federal law, and requires overtime pay at the rate of 1 1/2 the regular rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week. Many companies are more generous, paying 2 times the hourly if work is performed on holidays. This is optional under federal law. Individual states may have requirements that are greater than the federal minimum, but none may have lower restrictions.
