Oristar is right. The oiginal seems to mean that the daily observation used the mixture, whixh is nonsense. Also "the virus" can be shortened. Better:

After the mixture of the drug and virus was used on the cells, the daily observation found...

try

Upon using the drug/virus mixture on the target cells, daily observation of lesions in the traget cells revealed that...
That way the "daily observation" becomes the object of the phrases.

Yours is ok though.

Why is it different from this in structure and ambiguity?

Perhaps "judge" wasn't the best choice of words. I meant "decide." Kinda sorta the same thing.
