Is trying to Get Rid of the term "Retard" a Useless Effort?

@hawkeye10,
You've not got that far yet, that's the next step. It's all been done before, you're just not that original, or self aware.

Retard is a perfectly good word, the best word in many cases to drive home the intended point.

I must say, though, that the use of "tard" as a suffix (in politically employed constructions such as "libtard," "Occutards," and "Republitards") is a bit dopey and possibly indicative of a lower level of maturity. But I'm all for free speech!

I will use it with relish, the more I am condemned for using it the more I will enjoy using it.

Well, as I so often heard during the early 1970s, whatever turns you on. Mr. Green

I did not endorse izzy's comment that you should be the first to be killed. Notice that I did not quote that portion of his post above. I was simply drawing attention to his observation that the Nazi genocide began with the mentally retarded. (Yes, I know that's not relevant to the thread. Laughing )

Whose morale? Confused Surely not yours ... you're a tough old bird! (Well, maybe not old, relatively speaking.) Besides, temper tantrums and verbal fisticuffs are to be expected online, unfortunately; and we all love them! Laughing

Gotta go now. Need to go exercise for about an hour and then do other stuff, which means I'm leaving now and won't be back for almost the rest of the day.

The community of course. Things have gone down hill fast here over the last year, and I am convinced that it is all the massive diversions of discussions and gratuitous personal attacks that are the main cause. Pushy specializes in this BS. This is of interest to me as the scuttlebutt is that it is Roberts refusal to silence heretics like me that is the problem, and I would like to put that assertion to bed.

@hawkeye10,
You're not a heretic, you're just an unfeeling bastard. Anyone who just refers to a group of people as dead weight, is lacking in humanity. The Nazis referred to such people as 'useless eaters,' you're not so different. It's not derailing the thread to point things like that out, nor is it bullying. Talking about the 'collective,' instead of society, robs us of our humanity, and reduces the individual to the status of a drone.

You're just pissed off because you've been found out.

If you want people to think of you as a heretic, why don't you say something heretical, instead of just saying something repulsive?

I dissent, Izzy. I don 't feel reduced even in the slightest.
The notion of "society" threatens and endangers the Individual.
It behooves each Individual citizen to keep society
and its henchman: government, on a short leash,
"weak, starved and inoffensive". Blessings be unto Heinlein.

@OmSigDAVID,
You're a special case though Dave, one might almost say a case apart. Collective sounds more Borgy than Society, and I know you hate that.

Not to me, I use "collective" specifically because I want to highlight that the group is a collection of individuals. I think that the group effort should be decided by the individuals through what ever means (maybe government, maybe not) we decide that we want to use, though conversation and convincing not through manipulation and orders from on high. David and I seem to agree on the evilness of a giant federal government which has accumulated vasts amounts of power and which routinely uses this power against the sovereignty and the best interests of the individual. Our only major disagreement I think is in what people would do if we were again free, would we focus on the best interests of the many, or would we obsess over our petty individual wants and appetites? I think more highly of people than does David, a point that is driven home when he says "trust no one" and I say that I tend to trust people up til and unless they prove that I should not.

This has been the case since forever in the US, Hawk. When are the people from the land of the brave going to rise up and take back that which they never had?

Maybe 'land of the brave' refers to carpet bombing civilians, gunning down peasants, napalming women and children, firebombing innocents, hiring proxies to rape and torture folks.

That's really been way more like it. Phony baloney brave guys like John Wayne.

@JTT,
Those closest to home are the people whom I am most concerned with. You have no sense of proportion and seemingly no understanding that humans are routinely evil, but I dont completely disagree with your points. I do not care about the subject a great deal however, as it is the abuse of the AMERICAN citizens by the American government that I find to be in need of the majority of our attention....it is a much greater crime than is the one you allege.

Re your condemnation of the american people, I am with you on that. We have gotten to where we are because we have over many many years failed to exercise our duties as citizens of this nation. THAT is why the American government is such an abusive dysfunctional entity.

david and I tend to disagree on almost everything, except , strangely enough, on the question of who's a right ******* arsehole. We tend to agree more times than not, except on spelling and pronunciation.

Yeah, y'all are really hard done by, Hawk.

You are supported by a communist system. Your everything is taken care of by the US government and your wife, at least, has to suck up to her superiors in order to keep the gravy train running.

US Army culture is a whole lot less socialist now than it was when we came in 25 years ago. How old are you anyways, as your information appears to be out of date.

I was talking in particular about the spelling and pronunciation of 'arsehole.' Grammar is one of the many areas where David and I have disagreed.

In a post to Hawkeye I referred to you as david, not David. This was an oversight that I only noticed after it was too late to edit. It was not meant as a slight.
