Just thought I would quote that in case noone had considered the alternatives. That is definately one, and the only likely one in the Pacific.

@hawkeye10,
When you say "obese health care system," what do you mean? Please provide some meat to your generalities, because otherwise, there's not room for discussion.

@hawkeye10,
How do you vote straight R and vote out every person who sits in Washington?

That's a trick I'd love to learn too!

Only in states like the Dakotas, where a small boom in resources can boost per-capita GDP because there aren't many capita around. Your observation does not generalize to populous oil-producing states, such as Pennsylvania, where the economy is not booming. I don't see why it would generalize to the nation as a whole.

This is interesting:

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/chrysler-gives-workers-day-off-to-vote

Chrysler -- the company that's annoyed at Romney for lying about them in his ads -- gave its employees the day off so they can vote.

I'm going to go see how many people are employed by Chrysler in Ohio...

@sozobe,
I'm still discouraged by the fact that Romney's lies are not challenged by their own people - who claim to be outstanding-patriotic citizens of this country.

I didn't suggest that low levels of oil production would necessarily create a boom, and I think you know that. Rather that substitution of domestically produced petroleum creates substantial new economic activity and employment, and it improves our balance of payments both as a nation and in the regions where it is produced. The cumulative effect is very significant. Certainly it adds far more to our economy than an equivalent number of government jobs (paid for with money borrowed from China) or with temporary jobs created in favored industries rewarded with politically targeted subsidies, as in the case of Solyndra.

@georgeob1,
It's a wonder that all the conservatives can talk about is "one" bad government subsidy called Solyndra. According to my investments, and the increase in millionaires during Obama's term, Solyndra is only one bad news for Obama out of many successes. Get over it!

They were and then those people left the party. I was one of them.

@engineer,
During this campaign term? I left the republican party years ago when they no longer worked towards their primary goals of small government/intrusion. They also revealed their outright bigotry, discrimination against women long before now, and increased the debt by double under GW Bush (which confirmed for me that I made the right choice to become an Independent). Heck, Bush's tax cuts increased our national debt, because he didn't pay for his two wars and the expansion of drugs on MediCare. Conservatives now complain our national debt is too high. There's no cure ........

@mysteryman,
How about GW Bush's war on Iraq that costs billions, lives of our military and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis killed, and the loss of trust in the Middle East?

Solyndra? You gotta be kidding!

True; it's not Obama who will win; it's the American people and the world - by his win. Even Europe is rooting for Obama to win. You wouldn't understand why.
