@JGoldman10,

I would like to go back to my old college to get a second degree in Illustration/Cartooning. I was an Animation major - I want to go back to school to further my art training to do comics. I was contemplating either doing that or just taking Continuing Education courses in Illustration/Cartooning - unfortunately, my school doesn't have on online program where I can get the training I need. I have to take care of financial aid issues. My old school is downstate - they don't offer a discount commute program either. Right now, if I could go back, I am also wondering if I would have enough time to make the commute from the local buses to the subway downstate to get to school ontime. I have to find out about the bus company's local student discount program. I know the buses downstate offered student discounts for bus passes. Right now, I am figuring out what to do to further my art training in the meantime. There was a local art school I went to to take classes a few years ago but they closed down because the person who ran the school is not a full-time student. I was trying to find out about online programs to further my art training- I was looking at online programs to get a second degree but if you have student loan issues they aren't going to let people do that unless you are taking care of that first. I was trying to find out about drawing classes in my local area, and other venues to further my art training. There is the Kubert School of Cartooning, which offers a program to further your art training, which you can do from home, and The Art Instructional Schools. AIS is the company that has those free art tests people take and evaluate and they have a two-year program in which people can further their art training.

It's hard to believe that you wrote that, JG, because it sounds so normal.

Do you have any advice concerning any of this?

Yes. I suggest you write all of your posts in as well organized, thoughtful, and mature a manner as this one--no TYPING IN CAPS, no juvenile insults, no gratuitous Bible thumping, no coy racial or sexual baiting, etc.

Obviously, you can behave like a grown-up, so why don't you do it all the time?

@firefly,
That is true, God does help those who help themselves.

Grants to me, I know I am from Australia, but to me, it still comes from us, people in-other-words, that live in your State, from Taxes.

There I get a tad annoyed, because you, can be whoever you want even at your age, if you believe, but to do that, you have to stand on your two feet or else in my opinion you are not successful, rather use, to as if you deserve it and shouldn't work hard like everyone else to get somewhere.

I'm talking general there but I am sure it applies as well.

You obviously are intellient as just pointed out, JG...

firefly you can only hit your head against a wall, a couple of times:)

So, JG what work could you do, to stand on your own two feet?

To repeat, have you checked the Marvel site? You don't have to draw their kind of comics or their stories, but there are general issues in producing books that you can learn from them. And they do great action scenes, which you can learn from. Broaden your horizons a bit. If you've got money problems, learn from free things rather than go round in circles as you're so prone to do.

google "comic book tutorial" and "marvel comics tutorial". As long as you can't afford anything, get off your duff and look at what you can get for free.

@FOUND SOUL,
If I do take continuing education classes through my old school, I am wondering am I going to have time to make the commute to get to take the classes. The local bus company in my area does have student passes - I have to find out what time the buses leave and the time the subway leaves to get to the school, and find out when the classes are going to be held. You don't have to concern yourself with financial aid to take continuing education classes- you just pay for registration.

I just found this link:

http://www.scottmcdaniel.net/

I was looking for "DC Comics drawing tutorial" - and found this. He has a selection of DC Comics-related art he did and he has a section for CHRISTIAN art that is interesting.

@MontereyJack,
You shouldn't make RETARDED, ASININE ASSUMPTIONS about things you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. You MAKE YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A BIGGER IGNORAMUS when you do that.

Maybe you should take your own advice.

@FOUND SOUL,
I need to contact my local arts council in regards to taking drawings classes - find out where they are given and how cost they will cost.

@JGoldman10,
In your threads about whether or not you should go back to college (and eslewhere) you clearly state your financial suituation. You state you that you owe money on your previous college loan. In you own words you tell people your behind on the loan.

Try harder to make some sense and keep focus, will you?!

@JGoldman10,
Why do you tell the people here about the link to that info? You're the one that wants to know this stuff. If you're trying to prove you're not lazy, you've failed time and time again.

Again, why ask us here? Not a single person here cares. Take care of these sort of details on your own. When will you actually do something instead of just talking about doing 'research'?

@JGoldman10,
Why would need drawing courses if you already KNOW how to draw? After all, you TOLD us all that you WERE and Art student.

@Ragman,
I was an ANIMATION STUDENT and that was OVER A DECADE AGO.

ANIMATION and ILLUSTRATION/CARTOONING are two different things. It is not enough to use the principles you learned in animation and apply it to comic book/comic strip making.
