@dlowan,
Meow is a word - an Onomatopoeia. Such Onomatopoeia are words like bark, moo, chirp, hiss ... etc. Shocked

Here's another one: Onomatopoeia

@izzythepush,
Oh! I read part 1. I don't know if I really get it.

Ok! My interpretation:
So, there at this wedding and the old guy with the beard and eyes (The Mariner??)stops this other guy and he's about to tell a story. Then the guy he stopped (The Wedding-Guest) is like "Let me go, you crazy old man!". So, the Mariner let's him go but he has 'magical/weird eyes' and now the Wedding-Guest is hypnotized and he can't leave so he sits down and listens.

After that I get super confused.

So, I think, the Mariner is saying that the ship left the harbor and everybody's happy then they see a guy in the water, then he goes back under the water. I dont know...

So then, there's a pause in the story and the Wedding-Guest starts beating on his chest. I don't get that. Then the bride comes out and then she leaves? And the minstrelsy nods their heads. I don't get that and what the heck is a minstrelsy?

Anyway, the Wedding-Guest is beating on his chest again so I guess that means he's trying to stop listening? The Mariner continues the story. He says the storm and waves were strong and wild and followed the ship south.

The ship was driving fast through the storm and they were headed south. Then it got really cold and they started seeing ice everywhere.

Then they saw an Albatross and I guess it's a good thing because they start comparing it to Christian souls and God and stuff, which I thought was weird because doesn't albatross mean 'burden'?

Anyway, the Albatross ate stuff, flew round and round then split the ice?

Then, the Albatross followed the wind and came to the mariners hollo. What does that mean?

I dont understand anything after that but apparently
God saved the ancient mariner and the mariner shot the Albatross.

Soo...I'm confused.

Poor Gracie. She is without the key to the code of Albatrossii and wedding guests and boards shrinking.

Unless she looks it up and then she'll need a bit of stamina. Do you think she has the necessary stamina?

Hmmm Wise Wabbit. What's stamina have to do with it? Razz

@GracieGirl,
That's not bad for a first stab. It's been a while since I've read it, but what you're saying sounds about right.

In short the ancient mariner suffers incredible torment because he slew the albatross, which was a bird of good fortune sent to guide the sailors to safety. Even after undergoing all this torture and hardship, both mental and physical, it's still not over, because he's cursed to keep telling his story over and over again, which is why the wedding guest has to listen.

There still is no answer as to why rutabagas are grown in gardens when you just know some darn rabbit is going to come along and eat them.

@izzythepush,
Oh! Okay, I get it now. But why'd the mariner shoot the albatross? Why is the bird called albatross?

@GracieGirl,
I don't really know why he killed the albatross, but we all do things we regret.
it's called an albatross because that's what that type of bird is called. You might as well ask why an elephant is called an elephant.
