Nada! It's the same Razz
The feminists made a big deal about it in the 1970s.
Thay used to shout: "LADIES are married to LORDS!!!"

In England, in other centuries,
a lady was elevated above other, lower class women; i.e., the cleaning women were not ladies.

@GracieGirl,
Nada is my dance instructor.

A lady is generally a woman. A woman is occasionally a lady.

@GracieGirl,
There is definitely a difference between "woman" and "lady".
In the common-sense understanding of those terms and building on
ehBeth's post, every lady is a woman, but not every woman is a lady.

So what is that difference (laying aside for now -- with apologies
to OMSIGDavid -- British peerage) between the two? Hmm?

@ehBeth,
You dance too? I'm on the dance team at school. Not cheerleading, just dancing. It's soo fun! Smile

Oh fine Ms.Technicality! Razz

If you look up Lady you fine stuff like, a woman who's polite, well spoken etc. Those are all good things. How could being called a lady be an insult?

Enlighten me, ehBeth. Wink

@George,
A woman is just a grown up girl and a lady is a polite and respectful woman.

BUT! Lady can mean the same as woman too!

"The saleslady"

"The lady who answered the phone"

"That lady stole my thingamajig!"

"old lady"

So there! Razz

I rest my case.
