In 4th grade ? That's early, most kids start in high school with German (if inclined to do so), unless your my kid - she had to start in Kindergarten already!

They were trying something new and I was in a class that got the opportunity. To be honest, most of it left me by the time I went on to 5th grade.

Back in my uni days, German was considered smart to take if you were interested in science.. I took it in '61 or '62. I got a B+. I was sad, since I messed up the word for bear. How could I do that!

I once bought a French language course. Books and records. After a few weeks repeating after the record's voice, my brother told me that what I was saying did not in any way approximate the words on the record. I was discouraged enough to give it up.

Yeah, learning another language is difficult and I remember using words in the wrong context.... I'd write "making ends meat instead of meet" or instead of things transpiring I used "perspiring" Very Happy.
In the end it's an enrichment to speak another language!
