@fbaezer,
I used to love licorice when I was a kid, but haven't tasted it since adulthood. I see it in some stores, but have no desire to buy it.

@ehBeth,
Quote:
Consumption of licorice (liquorice) can lead to dangerously high blood pressure and dangerously low potassium levels (hypokalemia). Licorice contains glycyrrhizinic acid, which sets off a well-understood chain reaction of biochemical events in the body resulting in high blood pressure.

So, to licorice, I again say, HUMBUG!

There are sweet treats I'd much rather have this time of year. These are the two I've been enjoying lately (and every year around Christmas).

Does "ho" count as a word?

@izzythepush,
I always bought the Terry's Chocolate Orange, but this year I can't find it. Is it still made? Still sold in the U.S.?

@firefly,
I don't know what's made and sold in America. We used to have a chocolate orange because it was made in Yorkshire, and my dad, like all Yorkshiremen can't stop banging on about Yorkshire.

Terry's was taken over by Mondelēz International in 2012.

Quote:
Mondelez International's portfolio includes several billion-dollar brands such as Oreo, Chips Ahoy!, TUC, Belvita, Triscuit, LU, Nabisco, Club Social, Barni, and Peek Freans (cookies and crackers); Milka, Terry's, Côte d'Or, Toblerone, Cadbury, Marabou, Fry's, Lacta (chocolate), Trident, Dentyne, Chiclets, Halls, Stride, Cadbury (gum and candy), and Tang (powdered beverages).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondelez_International

Maybe it's just been repackaged under a different name, or under licence. When I was in America in the 1980s I saw KitKats on sale, and they weren't made by Rowntrees.

@cicerone imposter,
If youve got any hert problems or kidney pressure issues, you should avoid licorice entirely. (I JUST SAW FIREFLY's POST )
My cardiologist's nutritionist gave me a whole list of stuff thats on my No No list.
I cant even have calamari or octopus cause they contain a powerful natural blood thinner.
