duh has the same vowel sound as the, the way "the" is generally pronounced, that is with a schwa. The initial consonant is different

My dicts tell me "duh" sounds the same as the word "do." Is that correct?

Nope, that's not right, Ori. Are these dicts Chinese-English dicts?

E-C dicts.

The spelling of bow ends with a consonant letter "w," but in pronunciation, it ends with vowels. So the question remains.

In some UK English dialects the w is pronounced but only slightly. In other dialects bows may well be pronounced like Bose.

@McTag,

Always "z"

This is obviously wrong, when you consider Fresco's more thoughtful answers.

Boys and toys are different from looks and books.

Bits (s) and pieces (z).

Beg pardon.

'Y' as pronounced at the end of a word e.g. 'toy' is considered a vowel, is it not? And the 'e' which is the penultimate letter of 'pieces'?
