@Debacle,
Thank you, Mr. D. Seems, at least, I wasn't the only one wondering about what that meant. (I'm sure the explanation is accurate as far as it goes. But it seems to me that if one comes up with an epigram which then needs to be explained by someone else, one has been less than successful in one' endeavors.)
@Lustig Andrei,
It's possible you're right, but please don't quote me on it.
I'm happy enough to stake my reputation on advancing a notion I know nothing whatsoever about, but not on someone else's having done likewise.

Not at all. Blacks can get armed and get sweet revenge for the hundreds of years of being brutalized.

Old Benjamin, the donkey, seemed quite unchanged since the Rebellion. He did his work in the same slow obstinate way as he had done it in Jones's time, never shirking and never volunteering for extra work either. About the Rebellion and its results he would express no opinion. When asked whether he was not happier now that Jones was gone, he would say only "Donkeys live a long time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey," and the others had to be content with this cryptic answer.
@blueveinedthrobber,
Don't you want to credit George Orwell with that quote?
I thought it was obvious. I certainly wasn't taking credit for authorhship. I figure the only people who wouldn' recognize it are republicans and so what's the point? They wouldn't understand something from a book unless it was written by Ayn Rand or maybe Hannity or O'Reilly.
@Lustig Andrei,
