@revelette2,
Why would you hate to be me? My point is that this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Fat people get insurance and find out they have Type II? Why is this a news story? Check on a majority of those people in a year and want to bet they still have Type II and are fatter then ever? What's next, HHS is going to use this data to restrict how the rest of us eat? New anti-fat laws to prevent Type II and only punish those of us with self control?

@Baldimo,
It is not a surprise, just good that more people are actually diagnosed so perhaps more people will get the help they need to improve their health. I doubt anyone is going to pass any anti fat laws. Perhaps some new programs designed to help people eat more nutritional, perhaps designed by doctors. I would like that anyway.

One solution would be to stop the big food giants adding unnecessary sugar to food. Everything is sweeter in America, even Kellogg's cornflakes. You're tastebud soon adjust.

Don't expect spineless lickspittles like Coldjoint and Baldimo go along with this. They'd rather watch poor people die than anything that would harm the super rich's profits.

even a socialist like me says let the markets decide. We are free people, we can do what ever we want, even if it is bad for us, even if you dont like it.

I am not so stupid as to buy the story that I need to be enslaved for my own good.

The current epidemic of obesity can be traced back to the advent of fast food and processed foodstuffs by food giants.

Slate has a piece up with the thesis that America's overweight problem might be caused by the diet industry. I have seen other arguments that the problem was the "low fat" craze because people switched to more carbs which fucked our metabolism. We have very little understanding of how the body reacts to different foods, that while the experts keep claiming to know they dont.

I am going to give up my freedom for an unproven story? I dont think so. You "Progressives" who want to employ government power for every whimsical project the comes down the pike are going to regret is as the people decide that Reagan was correct

@hawkeye10,
Either way it's all part of giant food corporations. You gave away your freedom long ago, preferring to bow and scrape to your aristocracy, blame the victims, who are addicts like any other, and pass on Fox disinformation as if it's fact.

Far from being an unproven theory, the evidence is compelling. You ignore it because your masters tell you to, and you're incapable of thinking for yourself.

@izzythepush,
You are probably right about the food giants and I know you are about the fast food giants. However, usually, laws, don't work as good as people being better informed and telling other people through media and other such ways. The program Michelle Obama did children really did have results, along with other programs. So maybe, something similar could work for all the overweight people instead of it being treated as something to be ashamed of.

Also, some people really medically overweight, either because of various medical conditions such as thyroid problems and things like that. People do become addicted to food just like people become addicted to drugs and alcohol and cigarettes...I am not sure, but I seem to remember a while back (would have search it later)the medical association even recognized obesity as a medical problem in itself, not just the cause of other medical problems.

@revelette2,
The majority of fat people are fat because they lack self control or they have some sort of past "trauma" that they use as an excuse to be fat. Have you watched Biggest Loser? It is a minority of people who have a thyroid problem. Yes our food makes us fat but it is our choice to eat it. You can get a salad with that burger or you can have the grilled chicken instead of the breaded chicken. Have the single patty burger instead of the double patty burger. With the amount of information that gets put out about dietary choices I find it hard to believe that people don't know a lot of fast food is bad for you. Same thing goes for cigarettes.

@Baldimo,
Like that has worked really well, just tell people to eat less. Just tell an alcoholic to drink less.... It took a long time recognize drugs and alcohol were real addictions which are treatable better than just saying "don't do it". Food is the same in really morbidly obese people.

@revelette2,
A lot of the additives in your food are illegal over here.

The oversaturation of sugar in food by food manufacturers has resulted in America having an abnormally sweet tooth. I have a recipe book from Texas that I sometimes use, whenever I make a dessert I use a quarter of the sugar mentioned, otherwise it's too sickly sweet.

That oversweet tooth didn't derive by accident, it was a deliberate policy to increase sales and make the food manufacturing giants' product more addictive.

Hawkeye talks of freedom, when I was in America I was not free to buy cornflakes, (or any other cereal for that matter) that didn't taste overly sweet.

@hawkeye10,
Did Ronnie say that before, during or after he went senile? He was a bloody idiot either way. You may want to bow and scrape to your aristocracy, I don't. I don't want workers labouring in conditions that give them cancer, and I don't want to eat chicken that has been bleached.

The mega rich are free enough, I don't want to sacrifice any of my freedoms just to make them all a bit richer.
