High School Censors Web, Blocks Conservative Sites

Connecticut High School student found internet access to certain websites to be censored based on the partisan affiliation of the organizations hosting the site,

According to a local news report published Wednesday, high school senior Andrew Lampart from Woodbury Connecticut said that while working on a project, he was surprised to discover that from the school's internet he couldn't access the state's GOP website but could access the website for the state's Democrats.

The trend, as the article notes, continued on other political and cultural lines:

Lampart even looked at Web sites focusing on abortion issues and religion. He found that “right-to-life” groups were blocked by the public school firewall but that Planned Parenthood and Pro-Choice America were not. He also tried to get on web sites such as Christianity.com and the Vatican’s web site but both were blocked. Islam-guide.com he found, was not.

Why do other messages and opinions have to be suppressed? The obvious answer is because it is a better message than the opposing one.

High School Blocks Conservative Websites

I wrote the title of this blog post because CBS’s was ridiculous.

Notice how CBS frames it: “A high school student claims…” Look, the story is easily verifiable. Just check the computer. Are the web sites blocked?

If Yes: the story becomes “High school blocks conservative web sites”, not “A high school student claims conservative web sites are blocked” (The implication, of course being: “some stupid idiot high school student is a conservative. Can you believe what a moron he is?”).

If No: there is no story. Some high school student is a liar. Who cares?

Anyhow, here it is. From CBS:

A high school student claims that a firewall is blocking conservative websites at his school.

Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School, discovered that he couldn’t get on the National Rifle Association’s website while on campus as he was doing research for a classroom debate on gun control in May.

“So, I went over to the other side,” Lampart told WTIC. “And I went over on sites such as Moms Demand Action or Newtown Action Alliance and I could get on these websites but not the others.”

The 18-year-old decided to investigate further by broadening his search terms to political parties in Connecticut.

“I immediately found out that the State Democrat website was unblocked but the State GOP website was blocked,” Lampart said.

So that is the excuse? It all makes sense now. It's the Bush's fault game. Well Bush did this so we couldn't do anything about it? This is the exact reason why I have claimed from the beginning that Obama has no leadership.
