11 year old constant menstration

Mon 16 May, 2011 08:33 am
My daughter started her period in november she was 10 now she is 11. I am concerned because i feel she is bleeding too often and way too long. My daughter is a young 11. Just wants to be a kid. She saw her pediatrician in March but the last six weeks have been hard and I don't know who to talk to because she is too young to take to a gynocologist but I am not sure what to do.
Recently she bled for 8 days from April 27-may 4 then she stopped only to start again Monday May 9-10 then had a few days off only to start again on Sat May 14. This seems crazy and cruel for an 11 year old to go through but i don't know what can be done about it and also don't like messing with mother nature.

@burbanosky,
What did the pediatrician say?

And why do you think she's too young to take to a gynecologist?

@burbanosky,
Please take her to a gynecologist at once, this is not normal. My daughter started menstruating at 12 and especially at the beginning bleeding is lightly and yes irregular but not that frequent. There is definitely something wrong
that needs immediate medical attention. Your daughter will have other health problems if she bleeds this frequently - anemic being one of them.

@burbanosky,
It is possible that her body is still adjusting to the changes. But a gynecologist can best explain what is happening to your daughter.

If she's old enough to have gynecological problems, she's old enough to see a gynecologist.

It is the use of Growth Hormones used in animal feeds to accelerate growth. Girls have been known to have their growth accelerated i.e. early menstuation

@talk72000,
No, there is something else going on. It is not normal for a girl or woman to have vaginal bleeding this frequently no matter how early or late an age they start their menstruation:

Quote:

She needs to be examined by a gynecologist and will probably need some lab work done as well as an MRI to check for cysts.

@talk72000,
From the link you gave:

Quote:
The amount of time between a girl's periods is called her menstrual cycle (the cycle is counted from the start of one period to the start of the next). Some girls will find that their menstrual cycle lasts 28 days, whereas others might have a 24-day cycle, a 30-day cycle, or even longer. Following menarche, menstrual cycles last 21-45 days. After a couple of years, cycles shorten to an adult length of 21-34 days.

Quote:
Especially when menstrual periods are new, you may be worried about your blood flow or whether your period is normal in other ways. Talk to a doctor or nurse if:

your period lasts longer than a week
you have to change your pad very often (soaking more than one pad every 1-2 hours)
you go longer than 3 months between periods
you have bleeding in between periods
you have an unusual amount of pain before or during your period
your periods were regular then became irregular

@Butrflynet,
That's what's confusing me -- she says she talked to the pediatrician, but that's sort of tossed off. It seems like the pediatrician would have been concerned and offered suggestions/ follow-up/ referrals.

@Butrflynet,
She could have an infection or been doing naughty things. Yes, the best answer would be to see a doctor not only a gynaecologist. It could concern her health. I know next to nothing about female hygiene so don't mind me too much. I just have an axe to grind about growth hormones being used.

@talk72000,
A doctor not only a gynecologist?
Rather, a gynecologist, not only a doctor.
There are a number of possible dysfunctions going on here and this should be discussed with someone who specializes in gynecology. At the least, this can lead to serious anemia.
Talk 7200, You don't know anything about female hygiene..
This has nothing at all to do with hygiene.

@ossobuco,
Who knows all these titles. They kill you all the same. My teacher said " Doctor Kill_me_quick."

@sozobe,
I just realized that maybe she means the problems started since her daughter saw the pediatrician in March.

Anyway, 1) as Eva says, if she's menstruating she's old enough to see the gynecologist and 2) if this problem started since you've talked to the pediatrician, worth it to contact him/her again. Definitely a concern.

Good luck.

@sozobe,
When it comes to vajayjays, pedi's sometimes just don't know.

I am driving over an hour next week to take my almost 4 year old to a pediatric gyno because she's been having problems for almost a year without resolve from her pedi.

@CalamityJane,
I know, tell me about it! August....she'll be 4. That is officially the age where I feel like she's starting to grow up. Up until now, it was cute and she was sooooo big. Now I am panicking because she's growing up!
