If a man claims to be Jesus today, how can you tell if it is true or false?

Actually it's not a question of fearing a bad experience as much as not wanting to take a chance on going down the rabbit hole and remaining there, pleasant or not. I have a son to care for and children who would be upset if I retired to "another plane" Laughing

As far as the author of my readings, I read it in Discover magazine and it peaked my interest enough to do some more reading on the subject. The article quotes work by a scientist named Greene. Although I can't find anything with his name attached, I have found a few things.

@XXSpadeMasterXX,
easy one...if the Bible is right no one will EVER come in the second comming outright proclaiming he is Jesus...Jesus says, people will say there is the Messiah out in the dessert, in the inner rooms, DO NOT GO OUT AND LOOK! for the second commming will be like flashes of lightning to take the rightous away before end times...

Matthew 24:23-36 (New King James Version)

Matthew 24:23-36

New King James Version (NKJV)

(23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
The Coming of the Son of Man

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
The Parable of the Fig Tree

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[a] is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
No One Knows the Day or Hour

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.)

That line, Where the carrion is the eagles will gather was repeated in regard to the profits made over the death and destruction of the American Civil War... In fact, it is true of the destruction of societies as well, that the offers of spiritual life and salvation abound where the physical death of the person and the moral death of society are evident... Christianity was not the only mystery religion practiced by the Ancient Romans... Their lives were meaningless, so they looked for meaning in their deaths... I hope they found it, but it is evident that barbarian hordes never suffered such preoccupations... Christianity, through its laws and practices has been a killer of nations, and a great undertaker of societies...

What DH Lawrence said of American Literature is equally true of Christianity: It is all about death... And capitalism is its child... How long ago would Christianity and Capitalism have died if both only had Europe to feed on??? Instead, descovering the world each had been given new prey and hosts to feed on, but since each is equally unable to conceive of a future, both are doomed to taking us all down with them...Christianity is an Vulture, and Capital is a lion, rapatious or scavanging with equanimity... ...

If Christians can't conceive of the future...but you as a non believer are different and claim that your life is meaningful, apposed to EVERY Christian alive...please explain how your doomed to fall as well? (by your own beliefs) even if you WANT to be in eternal rest, if that is in fact how it is as you claim then therefor, by your own beliefs you should not feel like your going to fall...UNLESS Christianity has some valitity to it...

The followers of Duns Scotist asked such question wtihout the means to answer them: What if Jesus had wanted to be conceived of as an ass, or a stone??? Erasamus made much of it in such places as In Praise of Folly.. They were the ones who got the Church to accept the Virgin Birth as accepted Dogma..

If people say that life after death is meaningful, which they do without proof, then they must steal the meaning they give to the future out of the present, and it is for this reason that Christians have so little regard for the people they exploit out of all that is theirs... It is a small step from stealing the meaning out of life to stealing the life itself... What is life once the meaning is gone??? It is only an empty sack, so what the Christians steal they say has no value, and so, no meaning... But what if it is all one will know of life??? What if there is no hereafter??? What if all that there is of value and meaning is what we all have right here and now, and for profit and filthy profit the name of Christ is used to exploit people to death or kill them outright??? There is no hell deep enough to discourage those who justify their evil by scripture...People want to believe.. It makes us all likely victims... But to be robbed by those who have no sense of what they are losing at the same instant only adds insult to injury... They waste it all, even the world we will some day leave to the beasts...
Bob Dylan in his great religious song said it best: Business men they drink my wine, plowman digs my earth; but none of them along the line has an idea of its worth...
What did God give us all but life, and for what are we pissing away this life to own???

@Fido,
makes sense....but tell me then how the exact argument couldn't be said if Christianity is in fact truthful?? and Atheism isn't destroying the meaning of sacrifice this live for Christ sake and live eternally peaceful...forever...I think ANYONE would agree if we had a choice at the end knowing we could have one or the other...everyone would choose to be eternal, over life here, wouldn't you agree? and again if you feel you have the correct understanding on life and wish not to (Cheapen it) then why do you feel compelled to "try" to correct me? when you could be enjoying your one and only life ever? again UNLESS Christianity has validity to it...and that is WHY you feel compelled...

If death is a gateway to another life... then all life is meaningful, therefore I must COMPLETELY disagree with that statement. Your second statement is also inaccurate. Christians and people who truly attempt to live their lives by the message of Christ, which is pretty much the same as all the prophets and great thinkers of mankind care very much for others. You are confusing them with the plethora of people of ALL religions who just worship and quote , hoping to use religion as a get get of jail free card and a convenient rationale for their behavior.

Then again, it could ALL just be bullshit. As St. John said in his letter to Harry Nillson, "Whatever gets you through the night....it's all right" Laughing

Death is nothing and you cannot prove otherwise... Let the dead bury the dead... Let the dying help the living... And I say this knowing full well how much Christians are the dead burying the dead, and how little they help the living...I agree that all religions have been a means of self improvement, not of mind, character, and behavior; but of the intelligent improving themselves at the expense of the weak..

@Fido,
you might notice I said IF death is the gateway to another life. I don't know and don't pretend to be able to prove it. I respectfully submit that you don't know otherwise and can't prove it either, unless you're a prophet, and then the whole God thing just might be true and you'd be the proof incarnate. Man that would suck for you. Laughing

@cicerone imposter,
I'm not asking anyone to prove anything. No one can in this instance, one way or another. In addition, what if we changed the semantics and called death the beginning of the next life from time without mention? It would completely change the popular view and the entire Christian religion... but it still would be a great unknown.

@blueveinedthrobber,
Some unknowns will never be known. Asking questions about them only leads to assumptions based on faith, and as we all know most humans on this planet live on faith, and not observable facts.
