Supposed that in a street you've confused your friend with someone else, who is staring at you in astonishment You apologize:"Sorry. Mistaken."

I wonder whether "sorry, mistaken" has conveyed the meaning "sorry I've mistaken you as my friend?"

It would do.

I'd probably say "I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else."
