I'm serious the similarities are un-canny...
mostly horse theives and hunters of "Slow Elk" in the olden days of Kansas and Colorado. Came out west from Tennessee in the 1830's.
Iffin you dont know from "slow elk" you aint got no cowboy blood in ya.
Okay, I've been a city-slicker all my life and never heard that term "slow elk" before, so please enlighten me - padnah.
No I mean from across the pond. England to be specific.
I've seen many an elk, there are none to fast to stay away from moving cars or highways. As for slow elk????
Funny story, actually happened.
I was staying at Jasper Park Lodge, one of the most beautiful of the old CN railway hotels. They have a herd of elk on site. The herd generally numbers about 35 members.
An american tourist asked me to take a picture of him and an elk(during rutting season). I thought he was going to stand in the foreground with the herd in the background.
No, he decided he would give the bull a bear hug. Well, the bull snorted and then tossed the unsuspecting guy into the air and then continued to chase him around the compound. Finally, I got his attention and I told him to kneel down. The elk walked away in a huff, but calmed down. I took a whole role of the action, wished I'd kept a copy, and gave back the camera.
He told me he couldn't understand the elk's reaction, after all weren't the elk the hotel's pets???
c.i. "slow elk" is cowboy talk for poaching a steer off a cattle ranch for food.
Ceili yeah back in the day, we all came from mum England/Ireland/Wales also french acadian about 1640 as for what records we have under the name of "Le Blanc" and "Wells" and "Rea" from the Brit Isles side of the family.
Well, regardless fo the names, I'd say somewhere waaaayyy back when we have the same blood stock.
Now there is a frightening thought.
