That might be. But he wrote it, in German, the language, all of his early essays and letters are written in.
But even later, living in the USA, he did write and say so:

I admit: he believed in a God, namely in "Spinoza's God". [That's the one, Engells quoted as having said: "Ignorantia non est argumentum."]
