What is the meaning of this sentence?
Commune implies at least an informal socialistic environment, if not actually primitive communism. So the sentence means that he spoke as a member of such a community, but was in fact devoted to capitalism and the private accumulation of wealth. That's the best surmise i can offer you without more context.
