What is a cypress swamp? Does it has anything to do with a swamp? Is it a kind of plant? Can I find it in Florida?

A cypress swamp is a swamp in which cypress trees are prominent. The cypress, in the United States, has a range from the Atlantic coast on the east to Lousiana on the west, and from southern Illinois on the north to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico on the south.

Below is an image of a cypress swamp:

Unfortunately, i could not find an image which shows the entire tree. Cypresses can grow to be quite tall. Cypresses do not only occur in low-lying, swampy ground either. Some cypress trees flourish in alpine conditions.

There is a dam/reservoir on Vancouver island that was built 80 years ago. When the forestry dept. cut down the cypress trees they left meter high stumps and then let the water fill in the area. 80 years later the stumps still stand. An amazing tree really. They don't rot.

@Ceili,
Acidic conditions in water can preserve organic material for many thousands of years.
