I was part of the hot, dark night. The night was all breath and air. I was all skin.

What does the last sentence mean here?

Good question.

My guess is that the person is saying that at that moment he or she had very little concious thought and instead was flooded with tactile stimuli.

Not every written is good writing and this appears to something that isn't.

She's describing that humid heat where you feel sweaty and hot all over and so aware of your skin in a way that you aren't normally. She probably hasn't got many clothes on either....

She's saying, "I had very little on, so lots of skin was showing."

It's not badly written.
We don't even have the context.
We're just guessing the meaning, given the words, based on our own perceptions, history and feelings.

Which is why I wrote "it appears" to be a piece of bad writing.

Given how little you knew, 'it appears' could easily appear to be too strong an assertion.
