The room was the maze of echo chambers where Steve lived as a solitary bachelor.

What does "the maze of echo chambers" mean here?

@PennyChan,
Without more context, I would say Steve lived in a sprawling, empty house. Each room had very little furniture, so it became an "echo chamber". "Maze" could mean the house was poorly laid out with no logic to the room placement.
