Truth is, I would be one of those loonies in the auditioning round lambasted by
Randy, Simon, and even Paula; my fifteen minutes of fame pared down to mere seconds.

What does "my fifteen minutes of fame pared down to mere seconds" mean here?

There was an American artist--dead now--who said long ago "In the future, everyone will be world famous for fifteen minutes." The author here is suggesting that he or she will be so inept, that his or her fifteen minutes of fame will be reduced to a few seconds. This is an expression of a lack of self-confidence.

Randy, Simon and Paula are judges on the TV show "American Idol". If an auditioning singer is really bad, he/she can be scathingly cut from the show in seconds, rather than getting their few minutes of fame on the air.
